I had a bridge built with a pre-stressed concrete deck. The builder had welding plates embedded in the concrete. I'd like to add some sort of timber railings. Any ideas for a design and/or how to attach them?

Rob, timber for the railing and uprights or just railing? If just railing then some nice boxed rectangular tubing would work good for your uprights. Plates welded on the bottom/side to weld to "embedded" plates in concrete and plates on top to lag screw the railing to... If timber both ways then a nice box bracket to slide the vertical timber in to and attach with lags or ?? This box bracket could be welded to concrete plates.

BTW, very nice bridge and abutment!

Rob,

Beautiful job.

Please excuse my curiosity. What is the span of the bridge and its weight capacity?

The bridge deck is 12' wide, 16' long and 12" thick. I forget the exact weight capacity but it can take whatever is legal to drive on a highway. Full concrete trucks are not a problem. Heavy construction equipment has already been across it.

I was thinking timber uprights and railing like this drawing I made...
