I am hoping someone can help me identify a flail mower I acquired. I purchased a Ford 3930 back in the winter and the seller offered me a 7’ flail mower at a reasonable price. Now that mowing season is upon us I noticed that there appears to be a part missing at the end of the blade roller. I am guessing it is a Bearing Assembly Shaft. I pulled the covers off but can not find a brand name anywhere on the unit. Any ideas of the Manufacturer and model from the pictures so I can attempt finding parts? There are a few stamped numbers on the covers but all my searches came up empty. Thank you for any help.

Looks like an Alamo.

That is an alamo SHD series. I cannot tell if it is a SHD74, SHD88, or SHD96. Yours is an offset model, which probably means its a SHD88. I suspect that you have some rust issues on the rear under the rubber mat. Alamo did not put drain holes in front of the rear pipe and water collects there and rusts it out. I drilled a 1" hole there and behind the front pipe on both sides to let water out.

Flailmaster has parts
ALAMO/MOTT Parts
Montage is another one.
Alamo/Mott Flail – Montage Enterprises

I have a center mount SHD88 with the course cut blades and really like it. It is the perfect fit between a finish mower and rotary cutter. It leaves a nice finish, not finish mower quality but good enough for me. On my lumpy and hilly fields the roller being right behind the blades makes it almost impossible to scalp.

Below is a photo showing the holes I drilled.

I believe those had a collar with set screws on the cutter shaft opposite of the pully. If I remember correctly the collar matched up to a oval shape in the inner race of the bearing. You had to spin the collar to lock it on the shaft and bearing then set screw it.

Thank you for the help with the identification of this unit. Great info and advice and really appreciate the link to the manuals and parts. I already have them printed out. Now that its not 100 degrees here in Pennsylvania I will tear the unit apart and see what needs replacing. Many thanks

In looking at the parts diagram that was provided by another member I believe you are 100% correct. My guess would be that the set screw worked its way loose resulted in the bearing spinning off. My hope is that I can get away with just replacing the bearing and not the entire assembly.
