Hi,

I'm hoping one you friendly formites can identify what this hose is on a Massey Ferguson 65 with the 3 cylinder perkins diesel. The hose is split and need to be replaced. Hose is on the right hand side of tractor near the generator.

Unsure to be honest, I would have thought it was an oil hose , as there is a lot of residual oil and dirt build up nearby which I believe has run down to the generator and killed it in the process.

The top of the hose seems to connect to the top of the engine, and the bottom of the hose connects over a long metal stem down at the lower front right of the tractor. Not sure if you noticed but there is 3 photos in that post above, not sure if they make it clearer.

Vent tube.. What's at the end of the metal stem is it just open at the bottom..... Its hard to see in the pictures..

Looks like it goes to the water pump. Perhaps a heater bypass hose. I wouldn't replace it until you fix the oil leak or the new hose will rot too.

Edit: Cancel that. I think "Vent Tube" is correct.

I don't think the hose is rotten, it has just split towards the bottom end where it starts to slide over the metal stem.

What's the prupose of the vent tube?
If it is the 'vent tube' what part is it called ? Or part number etc so I can order one?

That would be an indication it's rotten. A good hose will expand, not split.

It's purpose is to vent the engine crankcase. This keeps pressure from building up in the engine and blowing out gaskets and leaking oil. Yours may be blocked by the looks of it. ;) Make sure it's free to move air from the valve cover all the way down to the bottom of the pipe. Typically, the pipe extends down below the engine. Mud Daubers, mice and spiders like that large opening at the bottom. Keep it cleaned out. I tie-wrapped a piece of screen over mine.

It could be called "crankcase vent", "crankcase ventilation tube", "vent tube" or just "vent".
On my Ford, the metal part is called "Tube Assembly". The rubber hose is called "Vent Tube Hose".

I would measure the metal part and go to an auto parts store and buy a length of "Fuel Line Hose" to fit the metal tube. No need to make a big production out of it. But for sure, degrease and clean your engine. That will not only extend the life of rubber parts but also allow the engine to run cooler.
