All good suggestions. Another solution might be to use a simple brake return spring tool. Some brake tools are plier like with a hook for the spring and others have a sort of cupped flat end that catches the stud and you pry up and on. Should be able to find one at sears or even an autoparts store. Just be careful as mentioned since the springs can hurt (a lot) if you pinch a finger.
