... it will be because I really have my work cut out for me. This is the to do list for the new house, mind you, this of course doesn't include any work that needs to be done on my existing house, or the work that I need to do to earn a living.

  • Tear out and dispose of about 220 square yards of carpeting
  • Tear out and dispose of about 600 square feet of tile
  • Carefully remove and label all baseboards throughout
  • Provide a schematic to coordinate with the labeling of the baseboards
  • Prep concrete slab (remove all drywall mud clean the concrete and fill low spots with self leveling compound)
  • Clean ENTIRE interior of the house, from the ceiling to the concrete slab
  • Paint ceilings
  • Paint walls
  • Paint trim
  • Install nearly 2500 square feet of tile
  • Reinstall baseboards
  • Design entertainment casework for den
  • Build entertainment casework for den
  • Install entertainment casework for den
  • Paint entertainment casework for den
  • Design window seat/bookshelves/curio casework for playroom
  • Build window seat/bookshelves/curio casework for playroom
  • Install window seat/bookshelves/curio casework for playroom
  • Paint window seat/bookshelves/curio casework for playroom
These are just the projects that WILL be done before we can move in. We are also thinking of redesigning and enlarging the master bathroom to include a large double shower. That won't happen for a while though if we don't sell our existing house. Plus, once the weather cools down, I'll be tackling the landscaping and trying to give the house a bit more curb appeal. Like I said I have my work cut out for me.

Man, I *don't* like the lists like that. Might I suggest a sub-contractor? :)

I feel your pain. I am five years into a five year project. I think I am a year behind. :) :)

Just remember:

One bite at a time.

Good luck.

After day one the carpet and padding is out and hauled away and the ceramic tile demo is about a quarter of the way complete. Some of the carpet tack strips were a royal pain to bring up as some genius decided that gluing them down as well as the using the fasteners that go into the concrete would be a good idea.

I couldn't get one of those Hilti tools today, so all of the tile that was taken out today was done by hand. Here are a few pictures that were taken just before we decided to clean up and call it a day.

Looking at your tiles reminds me that I recently tried one of these - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices on a number of different materials which had been adhered to a concrete slab.

It made short work of most of them although it had a bit of trouble with the natural slate which I had set with mortar made up with lots of the acrylic adhesive sold for mixing into concrete. It got the mortar eventually, but the slate kept fracturing and flaking off. Standard mortar, glued-down hardwood, and carpet stuck to the slab by backing which had melted in a fire came up easily.

And the price is right if you have a Harbor Freight nearby.

I bought one of those curly, it works pretty well. The tile has been kicking our *** the last day or so though. That combined with other pressing matters has us still not quite finished with the demo. It should be complete tomorrow morning, I'll post more pictures then.

Well, this is what it looked like as of Sunday morning. However, it hasn't changed much since then as I have been busy with an unexpected project that my company picked up (I have to take all of the work that I can get to pay for all of this). Plus, we have been busy taking care of some punch list items and looking into replacing the roof (even though there is nothing wrong with the current roof) on the house we have for sale. By tonight I may be able to post an edit that reads "Sold Pending Funds" on my House for sale thread in the classified section of several forums.
