I'm not sure how long the weasel has been here. I'll say occasional sightings starting 2005 then several times a year in the past three years. Coyotes likewise - until my neighbor said he shot six last year. I think there are enough gophers here to keep this weasel busy. I have as many fresh gopher holes as ever.
Most views have been momentary and distant. The barn incident - after he climbed out of the wall where he was trapped - is the only time he lingered to watch me for a minute. I was on the tractor when I took these three recent pictures. He's not as leery of the noisy tractor as of someone on the ground.
I don't think there is any way to persuade a weasel to stick around by feeding him etc. I've read they eat a third of their body weight -all their own fresh kill - per day. I've never seen another animal move as quickly. And a personality similar to a mink, a very wild animal that will shred you if he feels uncomfortable around you. Anybody know more about people/weasel interaction?
