The starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel. I've never dealt with this problem before. What can I do to fix this? I have some mechanical skills but am no mechanic. Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks for the reply Mitch. I was hoping to affect repairs myself with help from forum members, if possible. I can remove the starter if someone can tell what to look for or how to test it. I am prepared to get it rebuilt if need be.

I live about half way between Corpus and Houston, but a little closer to Corpus. You're correct on the engine mfg and hp.

Thanks for the info Mitch. If I am unsuccessful in my repair efforts I may need to call the Corpus guys.

Sounds to me like it's the solenoid/bendix?

Does your starter have a "piggyback" part that the wires go into? I don't know how to ask the question since I am not familar with all types of starters.

If your starter is just whirring and not engaging then the solenoid would strike me as an issue. You should be able to remove/replace that fairly easy as long as you can get the parts?

Put a picture up here if you can.

Or, you can simply remove the starter and what I've done, take it to a place in town that does that type of rebuild/repair. If indeed, it's the solenoid then it's pretty easy to do. I'm not a mechanic at all however I am pretty mechanically inclined so taking something like that apart doesn't slow me down at all.

Good luck with it.

I agree, solenoid/Bendix is the first thing I think of. Ken Sweet
