I hope this is the correct forum, but since there are other IH questions here, I thought I would try. My neighbor has an IH 500C track loader and it runs great, but after it warms up and has been used to 15 to 30 minutes, oil seems to come from the vapor tube that comes from the oil fill cap then drips steadily. Under the cap is a baffle that sits just below the cap and is held in place with a spring. We are sure this is supposed to stop the oil and allow the vapors to escape, but there is evidence of oil above the baffle, and inside the cap.
We are thinking that either the baffle is leaking as we can see light through it and do not know if this is normal. Or possibly oil is building up at the top of the motor and not draining properly or fast enough back down into the crankcae, and thus flowing out the top of the motor thought the baffle, and out the vapor tube.
Do either of these seem reasonable? Has anyone else had this issue, and can share their experience or suggestions? The motor is strong, and starts right up, and has plenty of power with no extra smoke than normal. Thoughts?
