1979 Ford 1500, Toro 455D 10' mower w/ Renault diesel,
I have a 1962 IH B414. I took apart carb to clean it and in the float bowl I believe there is an accelerator pump. It was stuck up, which would not allow the butterfly valve to open. I managed to push it down so now the butterly valve opens, but I think that part is supposed to slide up and down freely. Is this critical to operation of carb? Can I leave it in the down position?

where can I get a replacement part for it?

I had the same thing happen to mine. the accelerator pump locked up , even the linkage wouldn't operate because of that.
soaked the carb in gunk for 2 or 3 days. polished it up and it travels up and down freely.

den, my float bowl is currently soaking in diesel fuel (recommended by my cousin). I was also wondering if solvent might work better. I'd also like to be able to remove the "emulsion block" from the float bowl, but one of the screws is seized.

sorry but I don't know about the emulsion block, as for the seized screw, more soak time there too might help.
if it breaks off no matter what, then the drill and broken stud/screw extractor comes to mind.
don't try to unscrew the screw all In one pass even then, working it back and forth repeadedly is the best bet, after soaking it a long time with something like pb blaster (similar to wd 40 but better in my opinion)
for the accelerator pump part, ya, I would use a solvent for that purpose to submerse it in entirely. a few days worth.

I soaked the pump chamber with PB Blaster overnight, but it didn't free it up. now it is immersed in diesel, but I think I'll swap that for solvent.

i haven't had very good success with easy-outs. mostly I've snapped them on these smaller screws/bolts. maybe I might take it to a machinist and pay as it'd be better than breaking off an easy out. they have special tools/drill bits, expertise, etc...

if it snaps you might have very good luck with a left hand twist drill bit. I use them a lot on broken screw extraction. use incremental sizes. usually the bit will grab and screw out the stud eventually.

Yeah, they work great. Just need to get it centered.
