IH cub 185 lo-boy 1976 - Alt-Generator not charging

I recently bought an IH Lo-Boy and had the alternator-generator rebuilt. The tractor now starts fine [ it doesn't use a starter], but it isn't charging. I followed the wiring diagram F to F and Gen to A on the alt/gen and battery to battery and I polarized the regulator but still slightly negative - it will discharge when I turn the lighs on. I even tried a new regulator - can anyone suggest what I may be missing or how to diagnosis this ? Thanks for any suggestions.

Also any recommendations for repair part suppliers for this vintage tractor would be appreciated.

since you dont see a starter you have a quite unique unit called a combo it is the starter and generator in one package. it works on the prinicipal the starter side works on 2 field coils for cranking and generator side works off the other 2 field coils for charging which is regulated externally by a regulator when the unit was rebuilt did they check both sides of system this is where i would start eliminate the unit first get it working also the regulator must match the starter/generator NOT ALL EXTERNAL REGULATORS ARE CREATED THE SAME you have "A" circuit the regulator must be "A" also dont have the info at home but can get you close to the correct number you need monday can you find on the unit the delco number for the unit would be most helpful also can direct you local supplier for regulator

update went to garage at home and found one of my old books your original combo was delco part number 1101432 the correct regulator is 1118381 and i think standard motor part number is vr13915 napa carquest and oreillys all sale the standard motor parts if you need one hope this helps also if your local rebuilder can hook up regulator with the unit that would be most helpful can supply proper wiring if need to but i know that is at the shop not here but we are getting closer
