IH Cub Cadet 128. Whats it worth?

I am looking at getting an IH cub cadet 128 tractor with a mower deck. I think it is about a '71 - '74. Is it worth $300. It works well and has just been gone over mechanically. Starts right up all the time. Just seeing what everyone else thought.

For some reason the old Cub Cadets do not seem to command nearly the price of their Deere contemporaries. Check out completed auctions on eBay for some quick insight but from what I've seen a nice clean good-running 70's CC with a solid deck seems to bring maybe $300-$500 for a gear unit (128) and $600-$800 for a hydro unit (129,149). So you seem to be in the ballpark.

Tough old units, I miss my 128.

Edit: Actually - regardless of the going true market value I'd personally be glad to pick up a 128 for $300 that was really running as you describe. Well worth the money IMO and much better than a newer used low-end tin machine for the
price.

I'm not sure what its worth. But it doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. Out of couriousity... what size and make engine and what size deck?

Originally the 128 had an extremely sturdy K-series 12 hp Kohler. Not hard to upgrade to 14 hp (or possibly more) though, because of the design and bolt pattern layouts of that series of engines and tractors.

I think ours had a 48" deck or close to it. That 12 hp Kohler was plenty to run it. Lots of torque.
