I\'m an RTV believer now
My 7 year old daughter was on spring break last week and Friday we had daddy daughter day. I needed to get a part for my lawnmower at the Deere dealer so we went there first. After we left we were passing the Kubota New Holland dealer and I asked her if she wanted to see the Kubota Gators. OK, if I had said UTV she would have given me one of those blank stares.
We were seating in the seat and she was pretending to drive. A salesman comes out and starts talking to us. I tell him that I would be upgrading from my 6X4 Gator eventually and I had heard a lot about the Kubota. This is the same dealership that was kind of snooty and non negotiable when I was shopping for a tractor a year and a half ago so I wasn't expecting much. This guy was knowledgeable and friendly. I was expecting the, "you have a Gator, those things are terrible" comment, but instead he tried selling the RTV on it's merits and didn't run down Deere or any other makes that I mentioned looking at. I give the salesman an A+.
I asked if I could take a test drive. He said sure. This place is surrounded by asphault so there really isn't any off road to test it on. I am accustomed to hitting the starter without warming the glowplugs on my Deere tractor so it kind of caught me off guard when this diesel didn't want to start. I slowed down and hit the glow plugs and it fired up. I stood on the pedal and she took off. I knew from reading all the posts on here about how the Kubota comes to a quick stop. I really braced myself for a hard stop. I let off the pedal and it actually seemed to coast briefly and then WHAM, she stopped. Wasn't too bad, but would take some getting used to. The dealership has a big lot so I could just about reach top speed running around the store. I felt like a kid riding his first go kart. I had a grin plastered on my face. When my wife and I are shopping for a new car or anything requiring negotiating, I always tell her not to act to eager. I am glad she was not there. When I got back around to the front of the store I pulled in and shut it down and told the guy I loved it, I wanted one and how much do they cost? I did explain to him that it would be closer to Spetember or October before I would be buying.
I had thought that the Kubota was too much vehicle for a UTV, but it was so nice. I can admit when I am wrong and I was about this thing. Now I need to look at what I can sell so I can get an RTV. He priced a Realtree camo RTV with the hydraulic dump for $11,200 out the door, how does that sound? Another thing, they had 2 RTVs, one orange and one camo. The seat on the orange one was harder than the camo one. My daughter and I were sitting on the orange one when the salesman came out and I mentioned the hard seat and then when I sat on the camo one the seat was much softer. The saleman acknowledged the difference. Anyone else have a hard seat?
