Sorry this is going to be difficult to explain....I'm at work and don't have any way to get a pic on here.

I've built a "chicken tractor", a mobile coop. I have some large riding mower wheels that I want I put on it so I can move it around easier with the tractor.
I have some lengths of C channel, 2x4 approx, and 18" length. I have some pieces of all thread I was going to use for "axels". I'm not really worried about wear since I won't be moving this thing very far each time.

My real question is: should I drill a hole through the C channel and put the allthread through it and bolt it, then through the wheel. Or should I weld the allthread to the C channel? and if welding, should I drill a hole through and weld on both sides?

I'll post some pics so you can see what I'm working on.

Thanks,
Patrick

Can you just weld the all-thread to the bottom flange of the C-channel? Or would that make it ride too high?

If you're going to drill the channel, then I'd take the easy way out and use two nuts per channel to secure the all-thread to the channel. This gives you the benefit of replacing the all-thread if need be.

I could weld it to the bottom, I'll just have to increase the angle. Good idea, thanks.

I'd rather not drill it, as I don't have a bit big enough. And for some reason my plasma cutter isn't working right. It's not "firing" fast enough, any thoughts on that?

What about welding it to the back of the C channel? Since strength and wear would be too big of an option, that might work. Instead of threaded rod, could you just weld on some bolts to the side of the C channel?

Since I don't have a plasma cutter, I'm at a loss as to what could be causing yours to act cranky.
