I am getting real close to pricing a 4310 and have a question on the new iMatch system. Does it take the place of the optional telescoping links or when ordering is it a good idea to have both?
Thanks, JRS

JRS,

Please keep me posted on pricing and other issues -- I'm interested in the same machine.

JRS,

I would think that the iMatch system would replace the need for telescoping links. The reason being is that you would back into the implement and it would latch into the iMatch attachment points.

JRS--

I had the same question as you when trying to put together a tractor package deal. My sales guy at KC-Canary, Fultonville, NY says you "...go with either iMatchquick hitch or telescoping links. You don't need both." Information on both is available on the http://www.deere.com/ website.

For the 4710 and for what it's worth, he was quoting me $184 for iMatch and $207+install for telescoping links.

From what I learned from this forum I believe the iMatch will work great for attachments that are factory new such as the Frontier line sold by Deere dealerships. I'm concerned about older attachments that may be a little "tweaked" by extended use or home repair. If I went with the telescoping links could I order the iMatch at a later time and just add it when I can afford to buy new attachments or "bite the bullet" and get it as a package deal now?
I don't want to spend money for something I don't need right away but when I order I want "up to date" options. One of the things I plan to order is the "power beyond kit" as I will eventally want a backhoe.

John --

My sense, and I agree with JMIII on this, is the telescoping links will give you greater flexibility for all types of implements, JD made or not. They would cost me a little more, but in the long run they would likely be compatible with all attachments -- even the Frontier brand. They may take a little longer to hitch up to implements but you maintain your flexibility. This, of course, doesn't preclude you from getting the iMatch Quick Hitch in the future if you want to and you feel like it would meet your immediate needs at the time, but you may find that you don't need to. I still haven't decided on this myself, but I'm leaning toward the telescoping links for now.

As for the power beyond kit, this is something that was also on my shopping list for eventual hitch up with a back hoe that I don't immediately plan on purchasing. My sales guy told me I would be wasting my money to buy it now. This could be easily purchased and installed at the time of back hoe installation. Hope this helps.

Bob,
The reason I was thinking of the power beyond option was the fact I thought it would be a factory installation. That way if I found a used hoe I wouldn't have to go back to the dealer for the kit to be installed. Just trying to stay ahead of the game. If that's possible.

John,

I know. The JD website does list it as a factory installed option for the 4710 @ $210 MSRP. I suppose you can go this route and maybe save a few dollars over a dealer install. I was also thinking like you. But, I'm saying to myself now why spend a couple hundred if it's just going to be there doing nothing for me. I may not get my back hoe for years to come. I still haven't decided on this.

I suppose it comes down to how soon you think you want to purchase your back hoe. If it's 6 months, a year or so, then I would say just go for it and look forward to hitching up that back hoe.

JRS,
From what I've seen of the iMatch, it's your basic "quick hitch" system. If you only plan to buy implements from your Deere dealer that are iMatch compatible, then go with it. But if you ever plan on buying any other brand, I'd stay with the telescoping links. I have the telescoping links and purchased a SpeeCo (sp.??) quick hitch. To this point, I have no implement (LP rotary cutter, LP box blade, LP tiller, KK rake, KK finish mower, KK HD blade) that will hook up to the quick hitch without modification. LandPride, who sells their own version of a quick hitch, even rates their implements as being "quick hitch" compatible or not. If the one implement you buy that isn't compatible with the iMatch is a 700+ lb. rear blade, you'll be real glad you've got the telescoping links.
