Help! I'm not a CUT owner, yet. I need help with my UT. I have a MF231S and over the weekend the lift started to drift back up. I push the lift down and the lever brings itself back. Anyone seen this before?

Thanks for looking

Weak "control spring" possibly. That's the spring under the seat at the tractor end of the top link.

Other possibility. Are you lifting something HEAVY using the draft control instead of position control?

I've seen that frequently on older Massey's with a weak control spring. Have you been lifting heavy loads? That'll do it!

Anyway, try this guy. He's the Massey Ferguson GURU! Big Dean Austin!

Thanks for the reply FWJ. I used the harrow yesterday with the draft control. I'ts a five foot harrow with drag bar and does give the lift all it wants. Have I broke something or will it reset itself?

There's nothing to "reset". A 5' disc shouldn't be too much for that tractor. I don't know what your "drag bar" consist's of. That "master control spring" has a preload adjustment. Get in touch with Big Dean. He's an authority on all things Massey. I don't know that particular tractor nearly well enough to start giving recomendations on adjustments. He can walk you through diagnosing the problem, then tell you how to go about fixing it. (IF there is actually a problem. May be just over-loaded the draft control with weight?????) Try to estimate total weight of implement.

I've e-mailed Dean for additional help. I'll post his answer when received.

Hey guys. Here's my reply from Big Dean.

If I understand this right it is the lever on the quadrant to your right that is creeping up. those levers have a screw with a spring on it there is a friction washer on each side of the side plate you need to tighten that screw a little. Big Dean

I'll try it tomorrow.

Sometimes the bird eats the cat, or something like that anyway. This was a simple fix, tightened the screw on the lever and went on about doing business. I was all over the place, but Dean pegged it first time.

Terry:)

He DA MAN! I've had him to help me through dozens of problems over the years. I've bought and re-sold a bunch of old Massey's. Most all had one or two "issues", some of which I didn't know what to do with. Big Dean diagnosed the problems in just about every case.

He's got a gift. He can listen to someones explaination of a problem, sometimes in terms not all that clear, then relate to you a diagnosis and fix in terms any amature can understand. If you haven't already got one, order his CD on your tractor. I have the 100 series CD. It's better than all the manuals ever printed. If you plan on keeping your Massey, bookmark his website.

There's a bunch of old Massey's still running today that may not have been otherwise because of that guy!
