Curiosity question. My toys are 30 miles away so I can't run out and measure them./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
On a 6' (or any width) rotary cutter or mower, is it 6' blade tip to tip (cutting width) or 6' deck width?
How about a tiller? Is it 6' till<font color=red>ing</font color=red> width or 6' till<font color=red>er</font color=red> width?
I would guess there is about 4" to 6" difference between the two.

Are they recently made, info might be at manufacturers website.

You could add 5 or 6" to the working width on BH and a little more to tiller working width.

Generally it is cutting (or tilling etc) width not overall or deck width. An easy way to remember is to think of a side discharge mower. The chute coming out the side isn't included in the "width".

Kinda depends on the manufacturer I guess. My RTS40 Bush Hog tiller had a tilling width of 38", so it actually tilled slightly less than the 40" and the overall unit was wider than the 40". So their numbers weren't exactly right either way. But on all the mowers I've checked, the size is the mowing width, and as already stated, you need to add 5 or 6" to that for the overall width.

Bird brings up a good point. The model number doesn't always correlate to the "cutting width".

If you see a width specification published & it doesn't say "cutting" or "overall" I'd say that a majority of the time it is the "cutting" width.

I can speak only for First Choice ground engaging implements here, as I have somewhat direct knowledge. With regards to all our ground engaging implements, if it is a 72 inch cutter, it actually cuts 72 inches, if it is a 72 inch box blade, the blade is actually 72 inches.

With some manufacturers, a 72 inch rotary cutter only has a cut width of 68 inches. I could name names, but I will refrain. While it is a valid point to say a 72 inch cutter with a 72 inch overall width is still a 72 inch cutter, we feel most people think they are getting a 72 inch cut - so that is what we give them.
