I know I am a BX nut, I was wondering about trying to get a list or share knowledge of implements suitable for the BX. For example, are there any PTO driven vertislicers with a seed box. If a 6 horse push type is effective then would not a PTO driven version about 4 feet wide be nice? How about a trencher unit? Experiances with disc harrows? It sure would be nice to be able to find some type of plug aerator suitable for the BX and again some type of effective small seed drill/vertislicer unit. With all the small 17/24 horse tractors out there how are people planting and over seeding existing lawns and what equipment is being used. Just some thoughts on this. I have being using a Hured spreader and a tine harrow from Furest for seeding my pasture and over seeding bare spots effectively but still I think a PTO driven vertiseeder would be better for putting in a lawn. i too would like to hear of a seed drill that would fit the bx. most seem to be too heavy for it. i have a ryan 36 inch three point aerator for mine seems to do pretty well . i did have to put 260 pounds of weight on the front, in some situations the aerator does very good prep for seeding. the ryan weighs about 475 pounds list was around $1600. hope this helps.

5 HP chipper?

I have a stand alone 5 HP chipper shredder which bogs down real bad all the time. Not enough HP.
Do you thing I could convert it to run off the BX2200 rear PTO?

Re: 5 HP chipper?

I was just talking about this with my sweetie the other day. We've got a 6HP chipper that we inherited from the previous owner; mainly because the engine was defunct from being left out too long. I'd contemplated rebuildng the engine (Tecumsah), but after thinking about it a while, it seems it would be simpler and cheaper to connect to the PTO on Lucy. She's got 17 or so HP at the PTO, that ought to run the chipper....

I just had to do a quick search on Ryan - was interested to hear about them - I found a link that looks like it might be them here.

No dealers in the USA though according to the website ...

Re: 5 HP chipper?

Woodstock, I don't know how to do it, but if you find out, be sure to let me know, 'cause there's a 5hp Craftsman out there in the shop that I'd sure like to convert to run off the PTO./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: 5 HP chipper?

Woodstock,

Someone gave me an MTD 5Hp chipper with a froze engine. Turns out the MTD 5Hp and 8Hp chipper have bolt patterns for the 5HP and 8 Hp engines.... So I put on an 8Hp engine. Chipper works pretty well but has a direct drive, cutter head hangs on the engine shaft. This seems like a pretty good way to screw up the engine real quick. Probably the reason the first engine was froze. My need was to get rid of brush not make chips. Turns out a match worked better and was a lot easier to run. Gave the whole rig to a friend that lives in the city where he can make noise but not fires.

Re: 5 HP chipper?

Al, the Craftsman (and I suppose a lot of others) are made the same way. And while it's slow, it's sure chipped a lot of brush. And I both want to get rid of the limbs and have the chips in the garden. One day, I had it set up at the edge of the garden and removed the deflector that makes the discharge go down to the ground. In other words, I was chipping brush and spreading the chips in the garden at the same time. All of a sudden that sucker sounded like it was chewing itself up internally; scared the daylights out of me. I killed the engine quick and found that some bolts came loose and a couple of the flails had come off. I was actually surprised to find all the parts that went out through the discharge chute; some of them were 50 ft. out in the garden. Anyway, it was a good reminder to stay clear on the discharge chute.
