4310/430 61"hd bucket on track for delivery 19th. Dealer is recommending the rb1072 rear blade which is a 6' standard duty and weighs 283 lbs. Is this enough or would the medium duty rb1172 @505lbs be better? Basically being used to grade gravel driveway (600') and a (very)little snow removal. The lighter blade is priced at $365. Someone recommended the Rezloh toothbar which is only available through Case-NH but don't think getting one would be a problem, any experience out there with that toothbar or other recommendations. Am also considering a 3pt sprayer with 10'boom. Any advice on where to shop? What do you all think of the landscape rake, would it be just as good as the blade for grade work, maybe handier? Feeling like I ought to load the rear tires, methonal is what's available here, this OK? Getting anxious.

Cedarman,

You did not say how much higher $ the medium duty blade is but I would recommend going with the medium duty especially if you plan on keeping this set-up for a number of years. The standard duty will do the job but the medium duty will hold up much better. Less worries about bending the frame or breaking something. The weight of the heavier blade will be better for ballasting your FEL.

Landscape rakes are available with a flip down blade so that you can have 2 implements in one. Gauge wheels help with grading.

Land Pride makes a pretty decent rear blade that uses the same mount as their landscape rake.
Pull a cotter key, undo a castle nut, remove top plate, and drop the blade, then mount the rake.
Used to have a 5' set, sold it with the small tractor.
Bought a 6' Frontier box blade that works alot better for grading than just the blade, but I sure miss that rake.

Check out their website, just do a search on Land Pride.
Their kind of pricey compared to some, but do make a quality product.

Good Luck,

DT

Will check out the Land Pride site. Don't have any experience with a box blade. Can I use a box blade to scalp soil and fill in low spots where trees have been pushed out-I assume yes. Do you find these more useful than a straight rear blade? That rake sure looks handy for clearing top debris like limbs, rocks etc that I would like to seed on areas that have been "cleared". Maybe a boxblade, rake, loader combo is the way to go? What do most of you really use the boxblade for? Still looking at or for 3pt sprayer advice.

I think your on the right track. The boxblade works much better for any serious grading, moving dirt around to fill in low spots, etc.
The rear blade will also work, just takes longer and will not cut areas down nearly as well. Primarily for moving loose material. The rear blade also works well on snow if that is a consideration, the box blade will move snow, but really isn't a good tool for that purpose.
The rake works well for picking up loose branches, dead underbrush, as well as leveling gravel, loose soil, and putting kind of a finish on your grading jobs. Guage wheels really are a great help when using a back blade or rake for leveling/grading as they help prevent the inevatable whoop dey doos you will get grading with any three point implement.
I bought a loader mount front blade to move snow with, and can use it for moving/grading loose materials. It's not really a great idea to use it for trying to dig or bulldoze heavy/hard materials, as it places too much stress on the front loader arms.
Sorry I can't help you any on the sprayer, don't know nothing about them.
Also, I little perk I've successfully negotiated in the past with dealers when buying a new vehicle, get them to agree, in writing, to sell you any parts, accessories, or implements for 10% over their cost, within the first 90 days of purchase.
Sometimes you can get them to agree to this for always, but not usually. This little ploy has saved me a lot of money on things I didn't know I needed when I first bought.
Better get her ordered, times a waisten.
