In floor heating?

   / In floor heating? #11
My wife and I are building now and the subfloor/walls are up. I am very interested in floor heating for my master bath. What options are there? How much does it cost? How difficult is it to install?
Thanks in advance

Dr3131,

Are you putting down a gypcrete base. If so, lay the wirsbo pipe right in the gypcrete. If not you can install the wirsbo pipe under the subfloor making a loop in each pocket space leaving the pipe about an inch under the subfloor. Don't put it up tight under the subfloor. Make sure you insulate under the pipe leaving a space of at least 4" under the subfloor. Don't use the plates that some companies recomend. They are ok but will give you hot spots.

Pricing depends a lot on the heat source. Codes will dictate that a lot. Most residential jobs can go from $10.00 a square foot dropping down to $3.00 a square foot. The more you do the cheaper it gets. Zones will add to the price and if you can use your hot water heater or if you have to go with a boiler. Our local codes never allowed us to use our hot water heaters until just this last two years and we have to have a double lined heat exchanger installed. This requires two pumps but still is cheaper than an additional water heater.
