I installed a solar hot water heater. I failed to notify my utility company. They sent me a notice attached to my gas bill in essence saying that my meter reading was zero and that this was not right, so they are going to charge me what they feel is my normal use of gas. Here is a scan of the notice on my utility bill.

Guess I am in trouble now :D !!

I wouldn't mind being in that kind of trouble....

Got any details on the solar heater - how big? how much? did you install it yourself?

Bob,

I would like some of that kind of trouble also.

I am actually looking into setting up a solar array. Hear in Massachusetts you get an almost 50% kick back on the cost. The system to power my entire property is about 30 grand as near as I can tell right now before all the local and federal kick backs. I am hoping to get a system done for about 15 grand out of pocket. I need my V8 pickup trucks so The better way to stick it to the oil company's it producing my own power. I will stay on the grid though

Bob,

I don't think you are in "trouble". This is probably automatically generated since you had zero usage. The computer just thinks either they didn't get a reading or the meter has gone bad. Just call them and let them know why there was zero usage.

Doc Bob,

I think you've irritated the Northwoods Uffda gods. Anyone who has been chastised in the same week for having loose n**s, and who is also being chastised for not using enough precious fossile fuels, needs to make serious amends.

I think the only way out of this is to send every TBN member a case of Leinenkugel's, 5 pounds of brats, a cheese wheel, and a Nutty Buddy Cowpie!

We had a similar, but opposite, assumption by our gas company after we installed a new pool with a gas heater. Not aware of how much the pool heater sucked natural gas, when the weather cooled off and we wanted to extend the swim season, we cranked up the heater and let 'er run.

When we got the first gas bill after we started using the heater, we saw no noticable difference in the "Pay This Amount" box. Hmmmm, this pool costs almost nuthin' to heat, we thought. Actually, the meter reader saw that the usage was so much higher than we were accustomed using, that the gas company just billed us for our usual amount, thinking that something must be wrong with the meter (they did not alert us about a potential problem). So, they sent someone out to check the meter and found it was working properly. If memory serves, they then concluded that there must be a leak, so another delay occurred while they checked this out. In the meantime, we were still boiling the pool water, totally ignorant of the gas usage. Finally, we received a bill that reflected the true usage PLUS the overages from I think 2 preceding months when they billed us for our average use.

My wife nearly hit the floor when she opened the corrected bill. I think it was around $800-900. We didn't heat the pool much after that.:)

Lol...whats a Leinenkugel???

Leinenkugels is a golden elixer sipped by burly lumberjacks after a hard day of bucking popple in the muskegs of Northern Wisconsin.

(i.e. -- regional Wisconsin beer chugged by my cousins.)

Bob you have angered the WE-Energies gods (properly pronounced as Wiener-gies, as in hot dog). You will be receiving a personal visit from Gale Kleppa to inform you of the error of your ways. Even though We-Energies was forced to contribute to your rebate.

P.S. Do call them and explain. Also don't be surprised if you get a visit from the diversion investigator (although you may not be aware of it).
