In Your Opinions, Which Make/Model In Under 25HP Models Has The Least HST Whine

That about says it. Looking for those who have experience, good and bad, on which tractors in the CUT Market have the least HST whine.

And, how many of you have noticed that when you use the proper gear range, it lessens the whine? IOW, trying to go up a steep hill in Hi Range while pulling a load whill give you more whine.

HST whine is somewhat affected by the type of hydraulic fluid used.

A <26 horsepower 100 cubic inch displacement engine operating at lower RPMs will drive the HST and whine at lower decibels than a <26 horsepower engine with <100 cubic inch displacement operating at 400 - 600 RPMs higher to achieve equal horsepower.


The two best whine solutions are noise cancelling ear muffs or ear plugs.

Interesting topic. I don't know the answer. But is it make & model, or is it something else? I ask because I have also noticed the same thing you said,
"that when you use the proper gear range, it lessens the whine..."

If that is true then it means that the more HST ranges you have, the less whine is going to happen. Two ranges is going to be louder than 3 ranges, and maybe that is why Kubota'a HST+ with 6 ranges is quiet most of the time.
I say "most of the time" because even with 6 HST ranges to choose from, I can still make my HST+ whine if I pick certain combinations of range, load, and throttle.

The right HST fluid matters too, but my experience is fluid type has less effect than picking the right range for the load.

I saw some guy on YouTube squirt a bunch of foam insulation down into the bottom portion of his ROPS in order to combat HST whine. He said it helps.

Kinda makes sense to an old redneck like me. Some ROPS are attached very near the transmission on the same frame/subframe and the transmission is what's making the whine and, as we all know, sound loves to travel through metal. bigly

Wonder if somebody wants to try it. It might fall into the category of, "Hold my beer and watch this" but without the life-threatening consequences.

Unless there's potential for harm to a Tractor. I can't think of any right now. Anybody?

Wonder how hard it would be to get between the ROPS and the mount with some gasket material? Anybody done it??

My Kioti doesnt make any noise. Maybe im missing out. It's like the turbo whistle on a diesel..... Kind of romantic

I think I read where someone filled their ROPS with foam and it helped.

I owned a Kubota BX and now own a JD 2025r. The Kubota whined more than my JD but they both do it.

I used to own a new Holland tc 35 da. Compared to the JD 1025R I now own the New Holland was more whiney. However there is a horse power difference between the two as well.
