Hello everyone, I am a new member to the forums, I have a question I hope someone can help me out with. I just purchased my first garden tractor, John deere X595 after spending almost a year researching the different L&G tractors out there. I have been looking at loaders for my tractor and came across the CTC front end loaders, which seem like a pretty well built loader for these tractors. Anyway my question is on CTC's website Rod talks about a modification which will greatly improve lift capacity by increasing the hydraulic pressure to 1500 psi. I contacted him and he told me its done by using a shim kit which he sells for $150. If anyone knows more about this modification I would appreciate some more info. Thanks, Jesse

I have a x720 with a CTC loader. I would suggest that you get the loader on your tractor and see if you need to increase the pressure by shimming. I have had over 400 lbs on my loader without a problem but I could tell it was near it's limits. I would work on rear weighs and get the tractor balanced and see if you need more loader before shimming. The CTC loader was a great purchase for me and Ron was great.

I wouldn't suggest this.

Even if you had more hydraulic power, that isn't your issue. The tractor itself is not designed to be lifting more than about 500 pounds. It isn't a 1 or 2 series machine. The hydraulic pump is not designed for that kind of pressure. I can guarantee, if you shim the pump, you WILL shorten the life of your hydro pump.

I agree with JD Tank, if you need to lift more get a larger tractor. A lawn mower should be light, a tractor with a fel should have proper ballast, two different animals.

In doing some research on the transmission and the charge pump which is built by TuffTorq I've found that they use this same transmission in lots of different tractors (Tufftorq K92) The charge pump is set at a default setting of 1000 psi on most applications but it is actually rated for higher then that. There seems to be some discrepancy on the maximum psi this pump is rated for. Some people have said its 1250 psi, where as CTC's website he implies its 1500 psi. In regards to JDTanks post, I would have to disagree that the pump is not designed for that kind of pressure. As far as shortening the life of the pump that may or may not be true. On another forum I found someone talking about doing the modification 6 years ago and his tractor is still running great ( his pump was set to 1250 psi) I think it has more to do with how hard you are on your equipment that is going to determine the life of it.

Get it and put it on and see how it lifts.(I'd go 45 loader but that's just me)You can make a cheap gauge for around 30 bucks what I did.See what its putting out stock, they can vary (ALOT) and mine was at 900psi.I bought the shims from john deere and added 2 a 5mm and a 2mm.Gave me abt 1190psi which I feel is safe on the pump.Your biggest problem is the weight to keep the back on the ground.Be carefull just don't start adding shims.I did this at my own risk and feel with in reason you can lift a bit more. Not 1200lbs at 1500psi.DONT DO IT!!!!.
If you need help let me know.

Well here's the thing, eventually I hope to get a loader but its not in the budget right now. I do however have a front quick hitch with a 54" blade and the tractor shovel attachment.

Since the loader and the front quick hitch attachments both use the same aux hydraulics, this mod would increase lift capacity for my tractor shovel attachment. My plan is to build a grapple attachment for my tractor shovel for lifting and moving heavy logs.

I don't think you understand what the X595 is capable of.

That is a garden tractor. It is NOT a compact utility, stop trying to use it like one, or make it into one. That machine is not designed for a grapple, or that kind of work. Nothing about the X7 series is designed for what you want to do. Even the 1 series isn't big enough to use a grapple. If you intend to boost your hydraulic output so you can install a heavy grapple, and than lift heavy items on top of that, kiss your machine goodbye. That is way too much weight for the front axle of that machine to handle, and the tractor itself simply isn't designed for that kind of use.

If you insist on doing the kind of work you described, I insist you find a bigger machine, no smaller than a 2 series.

Very well said.
