Mike,
Regretfully, the government moves very slowly. I spoke to
the o.e.m. last week, and was told it might be after first of yr.
now. Might not. I am sure we will go, but not sure when.
Thanks,Rick

Yeah - I know - I've seen us lose good contractors because the gov't can be slow to pay as well as slow to let the bid in the first place. It's all done in fairness to allow access to gov't $$$ to as many contractors as possible & in an effort to get the best price for our tax dollars. BUT it don't always work that way. From what little I've seen in my lowly position my guess is that a lot of folks would rather do without the gov't business and the gov't hassle - because the hassle costs more than the contact is worth?? and then does that drive the bid prices up and cancel the "best price" possible?? /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Unfortunate, but true. I saw some things during my career that most folks wouldn't believe. We had to get "bids" on everything, and since a lot of people knew how slow the city was to pay, sometimes the low bid was 2 or 3 times as much as I could have walked into a business and paid for retail. Most bid requests included (required) a 2% discount for payment within 30 days, and when the city paid the bill 5 or 6 months late, they still took their 2% discount. Many companies simply refused to do business with the city, and I sure didn't blame them. But the incident I liked best was when they got 5 months behind on paying for helicopter maintenance, the mechanic had one of the helicopters in his shop, and sent a very nice letter about how he had enjoyed doing business with the city, but that he could no longer afford to do so, and that he was selling the city's helicopter for his mechanic's lien. Some folks scurried to the city attorney's office to ask if he could do that. Of course he could. Needless to say, he got paid that same day./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
