I was under the impression that I needed to change the oil and filer, transmission filter and oil after the first 50 hours of operation.

My operator's manual states that the motor oil and filter should be changed after the first initial 100 hours of operation and then every 200 hours. It states the the transmission filter should be changed after the first 50 hours and then every 400 hours after that. It does not call for the fluid to be changed until after 1000 hours.

My dealer led me to believe, although never came out and stated all fluids and filters needed to be changed after the initial 50 hours. He just kind of agreed with me when I was purchasing the oil and filters to the tune of $300.00. The transmission oil was the biggest cost. I purchased everything needed when picking the tractor up and before I read the manual. I just wanted to have it all ready when I needed it.

Should I follow what my operator's manual states???

Thanks!!!

Your machine is only new once and the care your machine receives during the initial break-in period can have a huge impact on the performance and reliability.
Absolutely change the engine & oil filter I personally would not wait more than 50 hrs.
Also change the transmission filter at 50 hours and oil at 400 as recommended.
The gears & hydraulics shed flashing & minute particles during break-in and the filter will catch them and if not changed as recommended can become restricted (not good) particularly if it is a hydrostatic.
Not familiar with your machine (hydro or gear) but if it is a hydro it is very important to change on time as the filters are designed to catch very fine particles of 5 to 10 microns or less.
Gear transmissions are not as critical.

I have a 5035 with a little over 40 hours on it.... I plan on changing all fluid/filters at around the 50 hour mark [other than coolant]...no matter what the manual says. The cost is inmaterial, the touchy feely time is priceless..... :) I also plan on pumping some of the fluid out of the trans/rear end via the fill port at the rear. That way I don't have to come up with a 10 gallon plus drain pan, which the HST needs. Right now I am busy converting my crank chute on my snowblower to electric wench [ Sorry Brandi ] rotate.......

Thanks for the replies. It is a gear model. I will prob change engine oil and filter trans filter and 50 and then follow manual schedule. It does not call for transmission fluid change until 1000 hours. Thanks again all. I am racking the hours up fast. I use is so much more than the skidloader.
