I ran some gas through the diesel engine about a month ago, cleaned and blew everything out, thought it was all good, then I went to change the oil the other day and there was about a gallon of fuel mixed in with the engine oil. my suspicions are that the gas ruined the seals in the pump allowing diesel fuel to get in the crankcase.
My question is, would it be possible for someone with average mechanical abilities to replace the seals in the injection pump (if they are available) or should this be something I should bring in...what would you do?

Only if you have a service manual and are very confident of your abilities.

Why on earth would you use gasoline to clean a diesel injection pump? Never heard of using gas to do that...

Welcome to TBN:D

Rebuilding an injection pump is a specialty business, not a DIY thing. Either find a local shop that does it, or contact your dealer and see who they use.

several years ago ran a fleet of trucks with detroit diesel engines. had several that did the same thing. called a friend who did diesel work and he told me to replace the copper o-ring at the injector and lo and behold the problem went away not saying the deere will do this but worth looking at and this is something you can do. as far as working on the injection pump they are some what complicated and require some special tools not in all garages. i work now directly with diesel pump rebuilder if you will let me know your home city is possibly can direct you to one.

I'd pull the pump and send it in for rebuild if your sure it's the IP at fault.

Is there a mechanical 'lift' pump on that engine ?

How did the 'gas' thing happen,,,,don't be shy, let us learn from your mistake.

Not familiar with your exact pump, but most injector pumps have tamper proof screws/ fasteners to prevent someone who is unqualified from servicing them. Had a neighbor acquire the correct torx bit to remove one of the pistons from the pump on a 4 cyl Kubota diesel. He was attempting to replace a leaking 'o' ring. He successfully removed the piston but fortunately was unable to reinstall it. Had he been successful in reinstalling it, according to the owner a local diesel rebuild shop, he likely would have damaged the engine and could have experienced a runaway engine.

The engine is in an AR250 Ransomes large area mower which I subsequently purchased and spent almost $600 for the service call to have the pump removed, rebuilt and reinstalled. Has 3000 hours and runs great.

I would do as someone earlier suggested and replace the injector crush washers. If that didn't solve your problem, then I would have the pump professionally rebuilt.

Can you tell me how the crush washers would let fuel into the crankcase? I am not doubting you I just do not have any idea

Thanks
