Ford (New Holland) 2610 with FEL
Hello all,

I have a Ford (MF) 2610. It sat for 5 years before I got it. I changed fluids and filters and if fired up and ran great. Been using it about a month and drive it almost every day.

Today I had it running and it started to cycle like a stuck float on a lawn mower. It did that for about a minute and then died. I assumed that I ran out of fuel but still had half a tank. So I tried bleeding the lines at the injector pump that go up to the cylinders. No fuel.

I started at the tank and traced the fuel all the way to the injector input connection. Good flow and I also replaced the fuel filter just to know it was good.

I have fuel going into the injector pump but nothing coming out. I disconnected the lines to the cylinder completely and cranked the engine. Still no output from the injector pump.

Went to a tractor (sales and service) place and explained the problem. They said it was the injector pump and needed $700-$1000 to have it rebuilt. I REALLY can't afford that and am not confident that the problem is not something else. Was told you cannot rebuild them yourself as the parts are not available to the general public and that it is just too hard to do for "Regular People."

Anyone else had this issue and was it the pump or something else? Is there a way to be sure it is the pump?

Does anyone know where I can get a new or rebuilt on cheaper than $700?

I am not a mechanic but will try to follow any tips offered.

Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge.

Bob locate a local repair shop for diesel engines. Dallas will have some one that repairs injection pumps .
The reason cannot repair your self is cleanness of parts. close tolerances and knowledge of what to look for in a failure.
Also it is the timing for engine so be careful of how it is removed so can replace and engine will correctly run .

Did you find any water in fuel after 5 years? and some getting into the pump ?

A repair book will help in understanding the method of correctly locating the problems. I use the local library for repair books .

Keep posting and explain what was found.

Thanks Ken.

There was no fuel in the system when it was sitting. Took a while to bleed things to get it running initially. I did find a replacement pump for $550 on line and may go that route but really want to be sure it is the pump first.

I have researched on-line quite a bit but I don't know enough to research effectively.

My son has a friend that is a diesel mechanic and I'm working on getting him here to check it out. Otherwise I am at the mercy of a repair shop.

Sometimes it is good to meet a mechanic with little problems then when it breaks you have a phone number and know who to call.
