I have an early model MF 245 Diesel. A really good old tractor but it has developed a leak on the injector pump. The pump probably needs to come off for repairs. Is this some thing I can do?? Can I remove and re-install the pump, I am pretty mechanicaly competent. . FYI... I am 84 years old and have poor eyesight. but I get by. Thanks for the repkies.

Yes U can remove it.. it’s a diy project..
Shut off the fuel or pinch a rubber line..
Remove the lines and linkages..
U need to access the small plate that’s in front of the pump..
It’s easier to pull the radiator hose, so have a bucket handy.. I pull the top hose and bend it outta the way..
BEFORE you remove the small plate, make a scratch mark on the cover and block..
The cover holes r off-set and will only go on 1 way.. making a mark will keep you from spinning it 5x to get it correct for reinstalling..
Once the cover is off, you’ll see 3 bolts that hold the pump drive to the drive gear.. it takes a 1/2” socket to remove..
Once the bolts r out, DO NOT MOVE THE GEAR.. or the machine.!!!
Now go to the pump side..
On the mounting ear, you’ll see a timing line.. that line matches up with a set of degree marks stamped into the engine block..
RECORD WHAT * mark the pump line lines up with..
Now remove the 3 bolts/nuts holding the pump to the block and wiggle it back..
Once the pump is off.. remove the side cover and drain all the fuel out..
Don’t forget to put it back on..
Next, click on my screen name for contact information.
Good luck.

Sorry for the absence. I have had some health issues but I am back to good health now. The issue with the pump seems to be with the part where the linkages connect. Leaks badly but the trractor runs good. My local dealer (50 miles away) says a repair to that area can be made in the field. "we do it all the time". The pod where the linkages attach has 3 bolts that are safety wired. I was warned that these bolts are fragile. tighten them gently?? Is this a simple fix or??

If the pump is a CAV/Delphi..
And your handy with a wrench, follow the instructions above..
There should only be 2 nuts holding the rectangle cover on..& the throttle and shut off are on the top cover..
If it’s a RoosaMaster/Stanadyne pump, there’s 3 screws holding the cover on..& the throttle and shut off are on each SIDE of the pump housing.
When in doubt, post a picture..

I would try to fix the leak without taking the pump off. If it was leaking on the shaft seal and filling the crankcase with diesel, yeah I'd pull it. But, if it runs good and just has an outside leak, I'd try to repair where it is. Then, if you absitively posolutely can't get it, might pull the pump then. Won't it be great if you fix it and don't have to take the pump off ? Work toward that first. I'm proud of you being 84 and even wanting to try, puts wind in my sails.

It’s a diy project for some folks..
Look on eBay/Amazon for:
“CAV Top Cover Seals”
It’s a mini kit that contains 4 orings, the tc gasket and the 2 fiber washers that go under the top nuts..
If u look hard, u can find them for 9.00 w free shipping..The avg price is 9-12.00.
Get the gaskets BEFORE tearing it apart.!!
Good luck
