I've been busting my buns for the last three months trying to beat the calendar and get the foundation inspection done before my permit ran out. I'd already applied for an extension, so it was do or die. If I missed the deadline it meant paying for new permits and building to a new code; in other words, thousands more dollars. December 29th was the deadline. I'd called the ispector so many times trying to talk to a real person I've got his number memorized. Finally, on the 29th, he returned my call. He told me he went out the day before and looked it over. Everything is just fine.

That's great news. I went out yesterday to do a little clean up of stumps and such and found his tracks where he indeed did drive into the driveway. One set of footprints were clear to see as he walked to the edge of the foundation. Then one set of footprints leading back to his truck. This fellow is real good if he can pass a foundation with no more attention than that.

Oh well, don't argue with success I suppose. It's a good thing I sweated the details because he sure didn't.

I'll post some pictures to bring you folks up to speed. It's a big deal to me and the wife, and my biggest project to date. I dug the footers with a buddy's track hoe, then jumped in the trenches to shovel the mud and muck out by hand. Of course it rained six inches before I could do that, and we've just had another day of hard rain today. I'm sure I'll have a bit more work to clean up the mess before the concrete goes in even with a go ahead from the inspector.

Anyway, here's some pictures. The first one is me putting in the driveway culvert. Of course it had just rained and the mud is stuck to my boots. I really had fun with the little tractor slipping and sliding while I covered the culvert to make the driveway. This was about two months ago.
