My Iseki 4270 has what appears to be an inspection hole on the left side of the transmission case right above the clutch rod. There is no cap and rain water always gets in this hole which cannot be good. Of course it flies out when I start her - notice the rust stains? There is a drain plug underneath but does anyone know if there should be a plug for this hole ?

Also there is a grease fitting on the opposite side of the case and I wonder what it lubes as the clutch shaft is on the left.

Thanks,

Paul

The grease fitting might be for the other end of the clutch shaft. It goes from one side to the other. Most hardware stores have an assortment of plastic plugs that might work for your hole.

Paul,

If your Iseki sits out in the rain (like my John Deere often does), I'd get that hole plugged. Measure the diameter of the hole and go to a big-box store (Lowe's or Home Depot) or to a NAPA dealer and get a plug for the hole (as Kays Supply recommends in the previous post).

or order it from McMaster-Carr online. Great catalog and huge selection. It'll come right to your front door in a couple days.

Ok, so that settles it - it does normally have a plug. And I guess the other end of the clutch shaft makes sense for the zerk fitting. Apparently Iseki has special fine threads on these fittings as I cannot find any that fit correctly. I am about at the point of just using a regular one from a auto parts store and running it in and calling it a day.

Thanks for everyones help as I will source a plug for the hole.

Which hole is threaded? The grease zerks are metric. They are available NAPA,etc.

I have found metric zerks but none that are fine thread like the OEM version. This is as bad as locating glow plugs , LOL !
