I installed a Teknosha(sp?) Proidgy controller in my 2002 GMC last night. It was pretty simple to install, just plugged in. I was a little disappointed with the instructions that came with the controller. It didn't tell me where to plug it in. I bought the wiring harness also so I didn't have to do any splicing, but that didn't come with any instructions either. The guy I bought my truck from called me up a couple of days ago and said he forgot to give me the wiring harness for the trailer hook up. Without that, I wouldn't have had a clue how to hook it up. It had a tag on it that showed where it needed hooked up and had a fuse taped to it and told where it needed installed.

I hooked up my trailer, and can't believe how nice it works. The one I had on my Dodge Ram I just traded in was about a $35 controller, and it was really jerky compared to the new one I got. The Prodigy is much smoother, especially under light braking.

I have the same controller & use it on horse and flat bed trailers. Works great. I think the instructions referred me to the vehicle manual for directions on where to plug it in since its going to be different depending on make of your vehicle and all the changes the manufacturers do over the various model years.

I guess I figured if you ordered the exact harness for your vehicle, it would at least have instructions with it. I realize there are hundereds of different choices available between makes, models and years.

Thats the brand i have on my 2008 dodge 3500, like you said its alot smoother, it starts out at a lower voltage then works its way up to what you have it set at, that way you dont get that jerky feeling.

I have had 2 myself. Good middle of the road unit that does exactly what 75% of us need. I have put in about 40 or 50 of these in the last 5 years and like others said its always changing. Especilly on GM's. The wiring, plug, and fuse places have changed 3 times in the last 5 or 6 years alone.

Glad you got it installed.

really.. what model / brand was it?

I have a hoppy 35$ and a hoppy 50$ controller I use. as far as I can tell, they are the EXACT same controller.. the cheap one just has 3 leds.. the 50$ one actually has a rudimentary readout. They seem to work as good as the drawtite activator 2's I have in my dodge and yukon.. which were about 80-90$ controllers when i got them..

once adjusted.. they all seem to work decently well...

have a prodigy in my f450.. and of course.. it's a much more full featured controller.. however.. in the end.. once adjusted correctly.. they all make the brakes apply :)

I got it at Napa, but I bet it's a Hoppy. No matter how I played with the adjustment wheel, it was always a little jerky under light braking.

It's all going to depend on tow vehicle, trailer and load.

jerky to me sounds like too much brake power.. ie.. as soon as you touch the brake and the switch closes, but no truck braking yet, the traielr brakes apply, grab, and snatch you back and when you let off you really feel it.

when i feel that I try backing down 5% till it doesn't jerk but still provides drag.
