Simple task, no sweat. Even when I added a 2" lift kit, the only trick was to mount the top of the strut first.

Will he need a spring compressor? I did when I put in the 2" lift.

The only spring compressor I have is far too large to use on the RTV spring. I'm fairly certain that I just took the top loose (not off), unbolted the bottom and then mashed up on it and slipped it out of position. Then I unbolted the top and removed. To re-install I had to put the top in first (not bolted tight) and mash up on the bottom to put in place.

It's been a long time ago that I did that, but I think it only took me about a half an hour total for both sides. There again, I've slept since then. All I can say for sure is that it was relatively easy to do; especially in comparison to changing the springs in the front of my one ton pickup. Now that sucked! My spring compressor broke with the spring about 3/4 of the way out and all that fun stuff. :(

I think you're going to need a spring compressor.
Many car parts stores have them and rent or loan them out. Around here, most just loan them to you (after you leave them a CC # in the event you don't return them).

Although the directions are for a lift kit install, you may be able to get an idea by reading this thread.

i am thinking about taking the bottom ball joint out and maybe i can move it around enough to slip the strut out i allready have the steering rod off may have to slide the half shaft out first .this is a bigger job than i though it went pretty good until the clearance problem

well i finally got them on and i tuck the bottom ball joint loose and it gave me plenty of room just had to be carefull and not let the brake line get to tight or kinked just let it rest on the a arm the other side tuck only 20 minutes and i can tell a big differents in the ride and handleing .thanks to all who gave feed back
