Insurance companies are regulated by states, so that prices and when and where it's covered, etc. will vary by what state you're in. I don't have a tractor (yet), but for my boat it's (a) covered by my homeowners policy when it's in my yard, OR in storage elsewhere (b) covered by my auto policy when it's hooked up to the car and (c) not covered when it's on the water (I'd have to buy additional coverage for that). This is basically true for everything I own. It would not necessarily be the case in other states. I'm in N.C. and for years we've had an Insurance Commissioner who has had the guts to say "NO" to the insurance companies, so things are reasonably reasonable.
