Has anybody purchased insurance for doing odd jobs for friends, family and neighbors, that is not on your property? Since I got my gc2310 I have a lot of new friends. I am not doing this to make money but just to protect my self if something would go wrong. In my neighborhood everybody helps each other and I would not want to say no for small little things.

If you can find anyone who will write it for you let me know.

In another life I used to be an Insurance Agent. If memory serves me you'll need an "Inland Marine" policy. I have a 2300 & was quoted $70 per year for the coverage. There are things that you should be aware of. The tractor if used for maintaining your property is covered under your homeowners policy. This would also protect you traveling to and from the dealership for service or the like. Inland Marine would cover you for the projects you are contemplating. HOWEVER, if you do it as a side business that's another issue. You may not be covered. Also it would not provide you with liability protection if you hit a watermain or gas line or such.
It's not that complicated of an issue. Give your agent a call.

I did call my agent, which is state farm and she said they will not cover anything that is involved in excavating landscaping or even tilling a garden that is on somebodys elses property. I was shocked.

Yep, thats what they told me.
They do not want the risk unless they can write a commercial policy. I can understand that. Anytime you put a bucket in the ground there is the possibility of liability, that coupled with the issues like theft means they have to get more than a few bucks a year to make it a sound business decision for them. Insurance in not a nonprofit business. Having been in the insurance business a long time they have already experienced the losses and they know if it is a profitable or not. Thats why they say its not.

Better make sure you're covered.
You don't want what happened to UPRAISER to happen to you if you don't have the proper insurance.

You had better say No unless you have good dependable insurance.
I've turned people down because of the insurance issue, I like that a lot better than getting sued.
Another important point: Always call the toll free number before you dig any where.
If you hit a utility line you could be in for a six figure repair bill.

I did read upraisers, and thats what got me thinking. I bought this unit for clearing off an acre. It was an old nursery, now most of the trees are about 35 ft tall. They were planted so close together, you cant even walk threw it. But when I'm not cutting down trees and removing stumps I have been moving gravel, roto-tilling gardens, spreading top soil, putting in culverts (the ditch was dug, just laid the pipe and cover) and cut grass. So it has been bothering me, I should not have to tell people no on stuff like this. It is a real shame you have to because everybody is sue happy.

Mpegg,

You can get insurance for this. You may have to change providers though. The problems is that when something bad happens it has to be fixed.
