I have been doing field mowing and one of the home owner associations
requires persons working on site to have $1 million liability insurance.
Any idea what that costs and if I can buy it for a job at a time?

Have no idea about liability for mowing but liability (1 million)for my part time air and electric buisness is a little shy of 400.00 per year. Well worth the money in my opinion. I know the cost is based on what you are doing and what you will make per year. I would just check around a little and set your expected income low the first year.

Also may want to make sure your equipment is covered during transport, I just by a fluke found out that my farm tractor policy does not cover damages to equipment if it is damaged while being transported (ie. on a trailer) I had to add my trailer and tractor to my commercial policy, but atleast it also covers me on the farm so I could drop the farm tractor policy.

Cost depends on the size of your business (payroll or revenue) and scope of work. Farm Bureau, State Farm are good for small agri business. Travelers, Zurich for contracting types.

Ask local agent for 2 or 3 "indications"
