Interesting Info from Perkins website

Chinese Perkins?

Is this the engine being used in the big chinese tractors with the "Perkins" engine?
I am not super familiar with all of the different series of Perkins.
Maybe someone that is could enlighten me.
I know the engine in the DK65 looks nothing like the engine in the chinese tractor with a "Perkins" in it.

I alomost bet it is... When I looked at the Chinese Perkins I was shocked by what I saw, I could not believe that could be a Perkins engine.... This answers alot of my questions... Good Find!!!

Very interesting.
I always suspected that to be the case with many other products as well.
Seems Chineese don't respect patents and agreements and are great 'copy cats' in many products.

While in many cases quality might be OK one notices a lot of brands claiming 'XYZ' brand parts are a direct fit.
An example is small HP motors which bear very strong resemblance to Honda products.

As with Perkins, I suspect that often this is the result of the main or parent Co outsourcing to a Chineese factory.

Recently I aquired a digital camera (5 mp Olympus) that on close examination had no SN on it.
Camera is great but is it the real 'factory model'? or a 'back door' offshore sold unit?
I suspect that management of a lot of those offshore partnerships might lack a bit of ethics as we know and tend to have little sidelines.
It would not be hard for a factory to produce X% over runs and sell without SNs.

They also make a "Honda" engine.
Parts will interchange even.
They were in a Chinese genset one of our suppliers was selling.

China is the "reverse engineering" capital of the world! They start with someone else's finished product and then design how to build it.

I was just going thru the Surplus Center catalog that came a couple days ago. Right on the inside front cover is an 86hp Perkins Diesel engine (NEW)

I don't know if this will fit any of the tractors that are running Perkins engines but the price is just under $3,600 which I think would be less than an engine rebuild. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Muffler & air cleaner not included.

From what I read back when the association was begun, this is the only engine they were making jointly, and therefore is the one that is being seen in the current offerings from China.

I had heard rumblings about this trouble about a year ago, but there was nothing definite enough to talk about until I read your post. Thanks for the update.

Obviously Perkins doesn't want anything to do with those engines and what this could do to their reputation.
