Interesting rural Canadian P-51 story.

World of Warplanes North American official forum

I found the story on lots of sites, but have no idea of the origin, etc.

I hear one flying over about once every 10 years. Easy to recognize that sound, if you grew up hearing them.

This is the first version I could find. A little less political. Not sure if there is an earlier version, as the author would be 50 in 2005.

Most of these lovely old stories are fiction. This one is repeated every couple years on different forums.

Don’t find any evidence of an airshow associated with Expo 67 maybe others can.

The Trump comment was the first dead giveaway.

Don't think it ever happened.

What is plausible is the location.

Kingston is on the N side of Lake Ontario and more or less on a flight route from central US to Montreal.

Oh, and that P51’s are cool....

Sounds like a made up story, or at least highly embellished.

20 years ago, I had a client that was elderly that would tell stories of life in the Bay Area when he was growing up and working at the Naval Yard. I like hearing the stories that WWII Veterans would tell and was always looking forward to a new one. If I remember correctly, a P-51 engine had just made the news because it had just sold for a million dollars. Just the engine. This guy said that when the war ended, he was buying up military surplus for almost nothing. They just wanted to get rid of the stuff and get it off of their hands. P-51 engines where selling for a hundred bucks at the time, and they where brand new, in the crate. He remembers that several buddies talked about buying them, but didn't have any idea of what to do with them, so they passed and focused on stuff that they felt they could sell for a profit fairly quickly.

I DO NOT believe that is a "made up story".

The story (dated Oct. 13th, 2015) was published by ...Texas Flying Legends Museum.

Story title: "An Experience to Recall"

I had a friend who bought a P-51 in Winnipeg for $800 (1959 ish).
He also got a brand new spare engine in the crate, as part of the deal.
He flew up there every week from Minnesota, until he got it in flyable condition, then brought it home.
He completely restored it, painted baby blue, and flew it many times.
He is now long gone, and I have no idea where the A/C is now.

I once lived in the flightpath (half mile) of an uncontrolled airstrip. While cutting grass i was practically knocked over by what appeared to be a Mustang. He was tree topping his way in for touch and gos.

I have never heard such a racket, a beautiful one indeed. The closest noise I can compare it to is about 50 Harley's with pegged throttles.

This went on for about 20 minutes. Each time he passed over I was jumping up and down like a child

I had met the old man that owned the airport so I dropped by to ask about the plane. He said it was a replica but it sounded like the real deal, to my ear at least.

It is posted in many different places.

I posted a link to the first one I could find, posted in 2005 and including an email address. Based on his name, I found another website that also recounts the story, and gave biographical details for Mr. McDonald. This adds a lot of credibility, in my opinion.

The Gathering of P-51 Mustangs and Legends, Sept 27-30, 2007, Columbus, Ohio, Rickenbacker Field

Lea MacDonald a Captain Firefighter with South Frontenac Township in Ontario, Canada, and also a newspaper columnist and free lance writer. He has had a love of flight since childhood. He was an air cadet and had 54 hours logged by the time he was 12 years of age, though the DOT would not allow him the opportunity to get a license at such a tender age. His current interest is in ultralights and was once the president of the ultralight club in Kingston, Ontario.
The story details are consistent, and the geography and timing check out.
