Saw this auction online the other day in Aransas County and immediately thought of some of you fellas with big ditches, pond dams, etc. Might be a good drive but it might be worth it for some of you Texas boys.
I think nearly every city or county, of any size, periodically holds auctions to dispose of their own used equipment, confiscated items, recovered but unclaimed stolen property, and/or impounded and unclaimed vehicles. In most cases, they're live auctions, a few (but very few) sealed bids, and now some are learning to use the Internet. In most (not all, of course) cases, we're talking about junk, so bidders need to know what they're doing. When I was in charge of the Dallas police auto pound, we had an auction every Monday morning at 10 a.m. unless it was an official holiday, in which case, we had the auction Tuesday morning. We sold an average of 135 cars a week in those auctions, mostly to auto salvage dealers, but anyone except city employees was welcome to bid. And in 5 years, I think there were only 3 vehicles sold for less than I would have paid for them.
