Came across this 1066 on craigslist just wanting to get some advice on it. I need a tractor for feeding hay, shredding, and running a disk I've got 200 acres that I'll be maintaing. Is 8k hrs just to much? Here is the ad

International 1066 with self-leveling front end loader (not abused),around 8K hours, dual pto, 540/1000, open station, TA works, good clutch, good tires, solid dependable tractor, used almost daily. Selling due to needing a tractor with a cab for baling and shredding. This tractor is priced right. $7500 with loader, $6500 without. Won't find cheaper horsepower than this! Loader is not for sale unless you buy the tractor. This price is firm.
Call for more details.

I bought an 886 two years ago for $3000. Difference is it had a rusty cab, 1 door missing, the three point wasn't lowering at the correct speed, and is only 90HP. The interior is pretty busted up but the tractor has run good. I've put probably $1200 (which included to front tires) into it. Luckily I knew a couple of people that helped me out repairing things. Cab made it a lot harder working on the three point problem. Had to have the seals on two of the loader cylinders replaced (different loader than yours), replaced several hoses/lines, full fluid/filter change, needle valve on the hydraulic system, and a few other maintenance/age replacements. Oh and best of all I found a shop rag in the fuel tank. Guess some idiot used it for a gas cap at some time.

I've shredded, plowed with 4 bottom plow, disked with 12' offset disk, dug post holes, and box bladed with it. Down side it's real heavy especially on the front end with the loader. If you are in dry sandy or wet areas, be aware. The 886 doesn't have room to allow for wider front tires, but that would help.

Depending on how it sounds and runs when you look at it, that may not be a bad price. You could probably sell the loader for close to 2K if it is a Westendorf. Also Westendorfs are very easy to take on and off so you may want to keep it. Neighbor bought an 856 with a cab, 8500 hours, 3pt was really rough, and needed pto clutch, he paid 8500 6 months ago. Some of the really nice 1066's around here go north of 10k, and rough ones still bring 5-6K. I bought mine in May of 07, 5100 hrs, needed front tires immediately, back tires gave 3 years service, needed pto clutch, had to do MCV valve and pump this past summer, needed steering trunions, and it had a fresh paint job, 9700, and he was firm on that, but it was delivered. Depending on condition when you see it, that does not sound too bad.

Take a good hard look at that T/A. If it has never been done, it is way way over due. If the T/A is bad, that price is high. T/A at dealer will run 3-5K. Besure to do MCV valve and pump same time.

I agree from start to finish.

Thanks for all the advice I'm really needing to find something pretty quick. Just hate to get involved in something I'll regret later.

Just a FYI, a friend of mine bought a IH 1066 brand new in about 1974-75. I remember him saying it cost a little over $10,000. That's inflation for you.

I know this is a old thread but did you end up buying the 1066? I like the old internationals and just happened across this thread.
