international 424 valve settings

I am getting desperate! I have requested the valve settings on two different International forums but have got no feedback. Hoping one of you Yanmar owners might also own a manual or have knowledge of the valve settings on an old 424 gas engine International. I have googled and found one sight saying maybe .014" on both intake and exhaust while hot. Can anyone confirm or deny that being correct? Thanks for hearing and hope I don't anger anyone by posting in the Yanmar forum. Just hate to buy a manual for one piece of information.

I cannot confirm or deny for you; the manual I have for the IH 454, 464, 574, and 674 all call for 0.027 inches for both valves while hot.

Apparently the engine in your 424 is a longer stroked version of the C-135 motor; I see several places calling out for 0.014" hot for that smaller engine, but there might be a serial number break where the clearances go to 0.020" on the exhaust.

My two cents: It's better to have too much clearance than not enough. I wouldn't go any tighter than 0.014", and if it's looser, I wouldn't worry about it.

The procedure in my IH manual numbers the cylinders from 1 to 4, starting at the front of the engine, away from the flywheel. They number the valves 1 through 8 in sequential order. Their recommended procedure is to set cylinder 1 at TDC, and adjust valves 1 ,2, 3, and 5. Then rotate the engine one revolution so cylinder 4 is at TDC, and adjust valves 4, 6, 7, and 8.

Thanks guys. I purchased the on line manual Normde recommended. .014" on intake, .020" on exhaust, with engine warm. Manual is well worth $10 although the tractor is just passing through my garage on the way to a new home. She is purring like a kitten. :thumbsup:
