Anyone own a International Machine Company (IMC) rotary cutter? They seem to be a heavy enough unit. I bought one today for $1350. 7ft, twin tail wheels, lift type. How did I do?

You da Man! Great unit, great price. I lowered the deck in the back by raising the tail wheels one notch from the factory. Really, other than making sure you have a good slip clutch (if it came with one for that price you really are DA MAN) you're ready to go. BobG in VA

Yeah it's got a slip clutch. Woulda tried it out this evening, but the dealer only left half the shaft. Left the other half on the truck. Geuss that gives me an excuse to go there and do some shopping!

I just bought a 10' international rotary cutter. It looks like it is build well. Is international usually a good peice of equipment? Why do I need a slip clutch and where is the clutch located?

Thanks

The slipclutch serves to protect the PTO of your tractor by "slipping" when the mower blades hit something solid. This shock isn't transmitted up into the PTO of the tractor. It's often used in place of a shear bolt, the difference being of course that the shear bolt must be replaced each time it "works" but the slip clutch should almost never need replacing. A slip clutch is usually installed directly on the input shaft to the gear box of the mower, but it could be different on a mower that has two gear boxes. See the pic of the slip clutch on my 5ft International Machinery IM502 mower.
