Internet Auction Escrow Scams

If you decide to buy a high dollar item in an internet auction (say a tractor for example to make sure this is "related"), see this warning</font color=blue>. Not exactly tractor related, but certainly a good warning to us all.

A few weeks back, I went to bid on a new Porche that was about $30K under market...

I stopped when they wanted additional credit card numbers to process for "security reasons"... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I had bid on a watch and didn't get what was advertised. It took a little ingenuity but I managed to put pressure on the CA seller through the wife's workplace. It was her work email account where email contacts had originated. Apparently her employer wasn't thrilled with their email being used to purpetrate a fraud and told her as much. I got my money back in certified funds via overnight delivery the very next morning. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Watch your Email for something that lookl like it's from Ebay, asking you to enter your Ebay name & password. If you open the full header you see this doesn't come from Ebay, but from some scammer.
Other than bid on a lot of auctions, I have no idea what his game is.

It might have something to do with Paypal. Odds are that a lot of people use the same password for that as they use for Ebay. Armed with that information, a scammer could buy whatever he chose, pay via Paypal and have the merchandise sent to them.

I have no idea if this is it or not but it seems like a possibility.

escrow acccounts are a waste of time and just delay the transactions.


As a seller, I am going to get my money before shipping. As a buyer if I dont trust the seller enough to send him the money then I shouldnt be buying from him.
