Has anyone downloaded IE9 yet? I'm looking for feedback on how it's different (good or bad) than IE8 ?

IE is Microsoft crapware. Switch to Firefox 4 and you will never go back to IE.

BTW read somewhere that IE9 wont run under Windows XP so you may want to research that if you have XP.

Been running IE9 on my three Vista computers for some time, have never had any problems and I don't know why people badmouth it. Cannot really tell any difference from IE8.

It never seizes to amaze me how some anti-Microsoft person always chimes in with their opinion about how much another browser is better even when not asked.
I don't think anyone asked about Firefox unless I missed something?

Anyway-IE9 is definately an improvement over IE8 but you can't use it if your running XP as the poster I quoted suggested. I have been using it on my Vista Ultimate laptop and desktop since it was beta and like IE8 I never had a problem and I love it.

By the way,

Anyone reading this thread-I challange anyone to download IE9, and Firefox, and Safari and Chrome (yes you can have all of them installed on the same machine) and compare for yourselves. I have firefox and Safari but I always, always use IE8, IE9 unless I run into an issue with a website. These days thats so few and far between and when I do go Firefox the problem in IE also occurs in Firefox. Usually when that happens it's because the web programmer is anti-microsoft or they outa date.

Hey-it's free to download anyway......

Yeah, I always wonder why people badmouth IE but never tell us what their gripe is about it. You wouldn't believe how many people badmouth my choice of Kaspersky Internet Security suite, although I am very happy with it a lot of folks tell me it's crap but they cannot really give me specifics as to why they feel that way...go figure.

IE9 is much faster than IE8 was on all 3 of my machines. I have had no problems with it.

I've been running IE9 RC on my Windows 7 64-bit machine since August. I haven't had any problems with it. Once the final version came out, I installed that on it. I've also installed it on our 2 Vista laptops - again no problems. On my previous desktop running Vista 64-bit I ran IE8 w/o any issues. As a programmer I try to stay up on the latest trends, so I kept hearing everyone say how great Firefox and Chrome was. Downloaded them to give them a try. I forget which way it was, but one of them I didn't like at all and had all kinds of problems from the get-go so it only made it a couple of days (I think Chrome). Then I went to the other one. I made an honest attempt for probably 2 weeks with it. Found myself having to load IE all of the time because something wouldn't work on FF. Finally gave up, went back to IE and all has been well again.

I never had anything not work with FF... but I guess I'm not a power user. For me, blocking all the ads is the main reason... if I could not do that, I would have signed off TBN the day the JD ad showed up under the "My Home" tab... I normally ran IE up until then.

I picked up a new Win7 PC last week and downloaded IE9 when prompted. I decided I did not like that they made the tab smaller and favorites star was gone. I played with it but decided to unload it.

I guess I just hate change and wonder why they change the way stuff looks all the time, when it's not broke. Make it faster, but don't mess with the names, icons or task bars.
I do love Win7 after having on my laptop for 6 months.

But that's me and my $.02.

I just purchased a new laptop with Windows 7, but have been warned by IT at the college I teach for to not use IE9 yet. I don''t think it is an Explorer problem, I think the College needs to fix some issues on our end with some proprietary software. College warned the students and faculty, but a few non-believers tried anyway and crashed. Not a major problem, they just switched to FF until further notice.

I'm running Windows 7 so the update should not be a problem. I'm happy with IE but do agree that they should quit messing w/icons. One of these days I'll download it. Thanks for the input.

My view is similar to jwstewar's. I stay away from new versions of software. Years in mission-critical IT operations (first VMS then NT) taught me it isn't worth it--unless you need a new feature in the latest version. I normally wait for the first major update because it fixes lots of bugs. Even with all the beta testing, there is no way a company can cover all the combinations the entire user base has.

I did the same upgrade, also noticed that my favorites star was gone so I tried to restore things back to before upgrade. I got message that said it didn't recognise some 383 adjunt or similar word and right now that laptop is nothing more than something to play solitare on. It is totally messed up and I have no idea where to start to try and fix it. I wish I had just left it alone.

To uninstall IE9, you need to remove it from Windows Update (at least on Vista & Windows 7).

Go to Windows Update and view update history. Then scroll down until you find IE9. Then just remove it.

thanks for trying to help. Right now I get a message that says "the ordinal 383 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertuitil.dll. I looked up the list of downloads but since the first thing I did was system restoe I think I lost that info because I can't find anything loaded at that time and date.

It is true that the original poster did not ask about Firefox. However I thought it was helpful, relevant to mention the availability of Firefox as an alternative since (as you have confirmed) IE9 does not run under XP and would therefore be useless to the original poster if he uses XP. Don't you find it ironic and ludicrous that the Microsoft morons would market a product that does not run under XP (its own most popular OS) when all the other major browsers still support XP!?

I am a Mozilla fan, and my favorite browser is Seamonkey, (which is today's version of Netscape).

I also use Firefox. Here is an Add-on that I also use that adds a small toolbar...where you can switch between various versions of IE and more...all with your Mozilla base platform!

Update...A few days later...I downloaded IE9 and played around with it for an hour or so. I wanted to see what it is like. I did not like the new look as well as the favorites/toolbars, etc, were not displayable and seemed harder to access. I guess I am old school where I like to see menu bars and options up front instead of inside other buttons.

Anyhow...thanks Pixguy for the instructions on how to uninstall it! That's what I did. I like IE8 much better...

And now...back to my favorite...Seamonkey...

when you have kids, you will understand why you don't like IE any version. to many websites, have scams, hacks, etc... loaded prime time for IE to give ya viruses, Trojans, etc...

on family member computers over the years, i have noticed a substantial. difference between when the use Firefox, vs IE. when i get a call, can you come over and fix the given computer (and then run multi software to find and remove everything) there are just less sites that are out for fire fox and other web browsers.

on another note: i stay away from most new software more so Microsoft software till service pack 1 updates come out. just way to many problems i have seen over the years.

and to note it, if there are new features websites can take advantage of in a new web browser version. generally you will not see any website take advantage of it, till a year or so later. and that is normally when main web server software packages support the new features. (example vbulletin that this forum is ran off of)

i am pro Microsoft, and i wish, the courts would of stayed out of Microsoft business a few years back. and let them push things forward vs, twiddling thumbs to implement things. on other hand, i still keep Microsoft at a distance, at least when it comes to new software, and waiting for service pack 1
