Tractor
New Holland, TC24D
Hi, I am a new member to Tractor Net and would like to introduce myself. I have approximately 10 acres of property used primarily for horse property and my home. I recently retired from the airline business and though i flew planes many years and taught flying i find myself somewhat intimidated with the gentlemen farming and ranching game. I love it but must admit it is a little different. I have a New Holland Compact Tractor, TC24-D. It is use around a 2005 model. My implements are a Land Pride Blade and a 48 inch Woods RM400-3 Finish Mower. I believe it i from around 1997 and i purchased that late last year and just now trying to get acquainted with it. I now am having problems with Gearbox. I could not believe how difficult it is proving to be just to access the gearbox for oiling and associated lubrication points on the implement. I still am not sure i have found the access filler point for gearbox oil and feel pretty dumb. Thanks and i look forward to future advice.

Welcome MM1950! I pulled up Big Boy Toys website and I see what you mean. I am not familiar with that mower so I am not a help but I am sure there are others on here that can.

I am thinking that you somehow will need to pull one of the plugs out of the center of the box and tip the mower up to drain the oil. We'll see what others say.

Thanks Creamer, i appreciate the advice. Hopefully someone will have some experience with this particular mower. I bottomed out on center the other day with it and it locked up. i could not move the blades at all and when i tried to reengage the Pto it torqued out he tractor so something has locked up. I can't manually move the blades at all. i thought perhaps a shear pin may have sheared but it seems the blades would move freely if thats the case. i have it unhooked from tractor and trying to figure out but so far no luck. belts Ok, etc. May have damaged gearbox, not sure yet.

You are right about the shear pin - if it was that it would spin freely. Maybe somebody put in a high strength shear pin - I have known guys who do that sort of thing.

I wouldn't be shy but removing the belt and rotating it. You can see if it is a spindle versus the gearbox that way. If it is still the gearbox I would pull the front plate off and see what you see. There isn't a lot of oil in there so it is not much to lose just kind of a mess. At least then you will know.

Bigboytoysllc.com has a great illustrated parts diagram which lists all the part numbers. I just typed in Woods rm400-3 in google and they come up. I always like having a parts diagram.

G'day and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

I too have a small equine oriented property & know how important a tractor is to managing the place.

Have fun and enjoy the site Mate... as I can see is already happening.
