I will get right to my question, I need to irrigate some pasture and am thinking on using a big gun impact sprinkler head. I have river for source of water, I need to get the water to the pasture which starts aprox 425 ft away from the river. from the river too the pasture level their is aprox 45 ft differance. I was wondering if If I bought a 8 roller pto pump and hooked it too my existing 1 1/4 inch poly water pipe would I be able to run a irrigation sprinkler. I guess my question is will a pto pump be able to move water say 1500 ft with enough pressure to run irrigation?

As of now I have a 3 inch trash pump choked down to the 1 1/4 pipe fill a 55 barrel then runn a 2 inch trash pump with a couple lawn sprinklers for a 100ft. would like to runn 1 bigger irrigation style sprinkler farther out.

I would think it would depend on the PTO pump's rated output and the size of the sprinkler gun. I tried running a gun on 60 psi on about 800' of 1-1/2 poly and did not have much luck. I went to 4 standard sprinkler head on pipe and did that instead. It was a small remote field and I never fussed with using it much after that. I think you are going to lose about 20psi just going up the hill if I did my math right plus whatever on the run of poly.

was thinking on using this pumpFerroni Direct Drive PTO Roller •1" inlet, 3/4" outlet
•Up to 48 GPM
•Up to 365 PSI
•Built-in 540 coupler
•Built-in regulator
•Fitting for inlet: ASC # 16829
•Repair kit: ASC # 27324
•Fits a 540 splines PTO shaft
•Inlet: 1.18''
•Outlet: .7486''
•Revolutions per minute: 600
•Absorbed power: 5.5 hp
•Discharge-washing: 18.49 gpm
•Discharge-watering: 47.56 gpm
•Height: 9.85''
•Length: 8.66''
•Width: 7.48''
•This is a high volume, high pressure pump, used mostly for spraying and sometimes for water transfer
•Can not use for liquid nitrogen or liquid fertilizer
•Good for the larger booms on some equipment on todays farms

You need to figure how much water the big gun will use. Get the nozzle chart for the gun and see what the water delivery is for various pressures. A typical 8 roller will give you about 12gpm@540 rpm and 22GPM@1000 RPM. The lift up the hill will cost 22 psi and the the pipe loss the will depend on the flow rate you require.
