IRS Owes Me Money - Email Scam

Just received this email:

Dear Tax Payer

My name is John Smith i am an agent with the Internal Revenue Service, United States Department of the Treasury. Its has come to my attention that your tax for this year has been over calculated, that warrant for refund we are sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused you.the following information is needed for identifaction.

1) First and last Name
2) Home Address
3) drivers license or international passport
4) prefered mode of payment.
If the following information is provided you will be given a verification number, then you will vist our nearest office to fill the payment form after which your payment wil be processed within the next three working days.
Please Do not include you Banking information. the purpose of this mail is to inform you, and verify you details your payment will be paid into your account or posted to your home addres if you prefered.
this procedure is for your own protection .

Your urgent reply is needed.

Has to be from a foreign country. Doesn't know that the IRS cannot process anything in 3 days.

I was believing (that time of season ) until I saw the agent name, had it been something like Tom Smith I might still be looking for my passport.

Seriously, forward the email to spam@uce.gov they collect them and attempt to shut this sort of thing down.

Print it and run to your local office and tell them you there to pick up your check.

Grsthegreat, Actually I have had a couple of IRS refunds show up in mailbox without prior notice???Most of the time if I hear from them it is a bill. This past year is the first Filing not turned in on paper.

oh... i never thought about e-pay irs filings.

Due to me having a business, i have an accountant file all my stuff on paper...i love the paper trails.

In Explorer, turn on the source and paw thru it to get the email address of the scammer who sent it or passed it along. Then have some fun yourself using a gmail temp email address.

I have software for engineering analysis that can be programmed to send out emails automatically within a DO loop (say 20,000 times). That always stops the problem for me and lets me sleep with a grin on my face.

good for you, but then again all they need to do is add your address to their spam filter and they never see those 20,000 emails. but remind me never to make you mad at me... you spammer you :laughing:
