Is 12 year old K-1 kerosene ok in barn heater?

I discovered some 5 gallons containers I filled with K-1 kerosene about 12 years ago. I used good, clean containers that were filled full and stored in a good environment off the floor. Any problem using in my salamander type barn heaters?

If it tastes more oily than acidic you should be good to go. :licking:

After twelve years stored like that it should burn. A salamander isn't exactly a high tech device. You should be fine.

I have some from Y2K and older, that I would have no hesitation in using.

I wont use anything over 1 year old,--cept for brushpile lighting. Good way to mess up burners. ---IF you have the big pot type units--then it would be o.k. but NOT the newer pump/filter/nozzle kind.

I use a Monitor heater as backup in the house. K-1 stored in a 250 gal tank. Have not filled the tank in 7+ years, no problems. Kerosene and diesel don't seem to go bad unless water or algae gets in it.

in 1972 i put 23000 gals of k 1 in the ground for the company. it cost 13 cents per gallon. when the building was closed about 1993 when i left the took out the generator and sucked out some 21000 gallons that was left to put in another building.

Me too......got a couple of 55 gal drums of it, I'd have no hesitation about using.
