Tractor
Yanmar Ex3200
In July 2008, I bought a new SC2400 with a mmm. Initially, I was very pleased with the tractor, having owned different brands and sizes over the past 40 years, this tractor did the job and then some so I even added a fel to it last year. For the first year the only problem I had was with the front bracket for the mmm. It kept breaking at the weld on the right side but the dealer replaced the 2 broken ones and the 3'rd one has held up so far. But this year as my warranty ended, I've had more stupid things happen than one would expect for a tractor made by Yanmar. First, the bracket for the air cleaner broke. OK, no biggie but, first for me on any of the tractors I ever owned. Then I found a bolt in the driveway with the same markings on it other bolts have on the tractor. I went all over the tractor and couldn't find where the heck it came from and the dealer didn't have a clue either. So, being the tractor kept running OK, the dealer said go ahead and run it and I did. Then, 4 weeks ago, I finished mowing 3 hilly acres and stopped the tractor on the flat to brush off the mower. When I got back on the tractor, I released the brake and pushed the pedal forward and the tractor wouldn't move. I got off, checked all the linkage and everything was ok, got back on and the tractor moved but only if the foot pedal was pushed really hard. I called the dealer and he came and got it and found the brake linkage was binding up and not fully releasing when it was supposed to be fully released. While he had the tractor, he also found that the bolt that fell out earlier was from the fuel pump.

So, I get the tractor back and for one week everything is OK, then 2 weeks ago the throttle goes up 2 clicks on it's own while mowing. I reset it to the correct rpm and after mowing a few rounds it goes back up again. So, I call the dealer and they don't know what's causing it to do that but tell me to keep running it. Then last week while mowing on a grade and making a left turn, the mmm shut off on it's own. I checked everything, the belt is ok, the lever is in position, but it still won't run. I head for the garage and when I get there, the lever for the mower is in the "rear" position. It wasn't there when I stopped the tractor. So, I checked the linkage and everything looks OK. I put the lever in the mmm position and the mower works. I called the dealer and told him about that happening and they don't know what caused it but said if it's running OK to keep running it. So, I did and everything seemed ok until yesterday. I was getting ready to brush hog around the fields and had just hooked up the mower when I looked down on the floor and saw a puddle of hydraulic fluid. In checking out the source, I found it to be coming from the junction box below the joystick. Now the fel has been off of the tractor for 3 months so it's not leaking from use so I tried to tighten it but nothing was loose to tighten. So, I called the dealer and he came this morning and got the tractor. Now, the dealer is telling me I'm the only person who is having problems with the SC2400 but, I don't know why. It has 182 hrs on it, it's not abused or overly used in any manner so I'm beginning to think I have a lemon OR the dealer is lying to me and this model is having problems. So, is anyone out there experiencing similar things or having other stupid problems with this tractor or is the dealer telling me the truth and I'm the only one with a lemon?.....Bill

Gee, not sure about your issues, but it does seem like a run of bad luck. Let dealer repair your issues and see what happens, if you continue to have those breakdowns I would look for a new tractor and trade in yours. Sometimes -hit happens and you just might need to change, good luck

I've been following the cub posts with several guys getting the 2400 and everyone seems to be happy with their machines. Seems like you're getting more than you're share of issues. I just bought one, a 2010 with loader and mmm.....I had a 5234, the yanmar predecessor. Only got a few hours on it, but so far no problems and impressed with its many new features.

Sounds like the dealer is working out the issues, hopefully they can iron them all out. Are they charging you for the after warranty repairs or not??

Yes, thank goodness, the dealer is working with me even though the warranty was over in July. They said they contacted CCY about the brake linkage binding up because it was something that's never happened to any of the other SC2400's they've sold. I'm just very disappointed because of all the tractors I've owned, new or used, this is the only one that's had things go wrong in bunches and not what I expected from a tractor that is mostly Yanmar. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I don't have as many hours as you, I have about 72, and I don't have the mmm, but I haven't had any problems with mine.

Gorddy might have more information as to what he has experienced as I think he has somewhere in the 600 hour range.

I've been following your thread on MU, and I have to say you seem to have some issues. Darned if I know why. The air filter bracket was a known issue on the early models. The bolt on the fuel pump that you lost I see as no big thing. The parking brake linkage....I don't think I would get into a huff over that, since it should be easily repaired. If the issue with the mower shutting down only happened once I wouldn稚 sweat it.
But the way your luck has been who knows.
The other stuff is just plain weird.

I purchased my 2400 in March of ?9 and for the most part it's been reliable (knock on wood) .I have 330hr on her and to be honest I work her pretty darn hard sometimes. I feel rather certain that I use this machine harder than most. I skid logs, plow over a シ mile several times a week in winter. Lift logs2 + in diameter x 25 with the FEL routinely when cutting fire wood (Only 6-10 off the pile mind you). Half of my hours is steady hard FEL and 3pt blade work. The other half just mowing a few acres. During the winter (last one especially) I had her running 2-3 hours straight moving snow?ften, at full tilt. I don稚 feel I abuse the machine. I do use it though.

Haven't had any problems like you have mentioned except for the air cleaner bracket which was updated to a thicker bracket. That solved my problem. Hopefully you get your tractor up and running like it should, best of luck.

I know the things that went haywire aren't major issues and I haven't totally given up on my SC2400. It is one heck of a tractor for it's size but it's somewhat discouraging when on days like yesterday, today, and tomorrow that are totally dry, I could be mowing around the fields but can't cause the dang tractor is in the shop. Anyhow, to those who own a SC2400, I'll let you know what the dealer finds as the cause of the hydraulic leak for future reference.....Bill

I hope you get it back quickly and don't have any more issues! I've been lucky enough to never have a tractor in the shop.
Thanks for keeping us informed!

Well, I got my tractor back and human error created the latest malfunction. The dealer said when they installed the FEL, 2 seals stuck together and both were put in a connection on the joystick manifold were 1 seal normally goes. They said it happens now and then but was odd that it didn't leak sooner being that the FEL was installed almost 2 years ago. They also fixed the throttle problem by adjusting the throttle cable. Plus while they had the tractor, they swapped the rear tires giving the tractor a wider stance which makes it feel a lot more stable when mowing hilly terrain. All of the work was done at no charge to me (including swapping the rear tires and hauling the tractor) even though the warranty was over in July.

Naturally, I'm upset with the stupid things breaking and/or malfunctioning on a tractor made by Yanmar whose reputation is and has been very high since they began making tractors but, overall, I'd recommend the SC2400 to anyone who needs a powerful tractor but doesn't have the room or money for a bigger one. With its power and size I've done as much mowing with it that I used to do with a Ford 3000 and in the past 2 winters, I moved as much snow with it as my friend did with his 32hp New Holland so it IS one heck of a good tractor.

One thing I would recommend to those who either own or are going to buy a SC2400, I'd swap the rear tires which makes the rear of the tractor wider and more stable on hilly terrain. When I hooked up the brush hog yesterday, the wider rear's reduced that tipping feeling on hilly/uneven terrain, if you know what I mean. However, that doesn't mean it can't tip over, common sense and caution are still the main rules when operating any tractor, large or small, on any terrain.

So, for those of you who own a SC2400, here is the total list of weird things that have gone wrong with my SC2400 since I bought it in July 2008 and which currently has 183 hrs on it. I've replaced 2 front mmm brackets due to the weld breaking in the same spot on the right side of the bracket; had bolts break on the 3 point hitch and other bolts fall out of the fuel pump for no reason: the air cleaner bracket broke due to a flaw in the metal's thickness(happened on most other SC2400's too); the brake linkage bound up and wouldn't allow the tractor to move even though the brake appeared to be off; the throttle cable was out of adjustment which allowed the rpms to run up 1 to 2 thousand rpms while mowing; a connection cracked and leaked hydraulic fluid from the joystick manifold due to the wrong number of seals installed; and the mmm kicked out of gear for no reason while mowing.

All of those issues were corrected by the dealer at no charge to me. The only issue not to be resolved is the mower kicking out of gear suddenly while mowing. It only happened once and has worked OK since then and the dealer ran it and can't figure out what caused it to do that but said if it ever happens again to call them so they can look at it right away. The head mechanic feels it's a linkage problem but he's not sure because the linkage checked out OK.

Well, hopefully my tractor is done with stupid things breaking and/or malfunctioning and I'll be able to use and enjoy it for many years to come. To those of you who own one, I figured I'd list all that's happened to mine in case you run across similar issues. Have a good one......Bill
