Agree with Lbrown. Where are you getting anything but ULSD at this point? Probably mismarked if it says HSD or LSD.

Yours is still a Tier 3 engine, can burn up to 500 ppm sulphur. ULSD is 50 ppm (max), LSD is 500 ppm (max). I think a lot of home heating oil is still 500 ppm, as is fuel for large diesels; locomotives, ships, etc.

Not a mismarked pump so much as a pump with outdated stickers.

That's good news, it's an above ground tank, it must be an old sticker

The average guy can't buy anything but ULSD but the others still exist. The US petroleum inventory shows 19.3 million barrels of >500 ppm distillate fuel oil as of 11/01/13. Refiners produced it to the tune of 217,000 barrels a day for the week ending 11/01/13.

"Ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel was proposed by EPA as a new standard for the sulfur content in on-road diesel fuel sold in the United States since October 15, 2006, except for rural Alaska who transferred in 2010. California has required it since September 1, 2006. This new regulation applies to all diesel fuel, diesel fuel additives and distillate fuels blended with diesel for on-road use, such as kerosene, however, it does not yet apply to railroad locomotives, marine, or off road uses. Since December 1, 2010, all highway diesel fuel have been ULSD. Non-road diesel fuel was required to move to 500 ppm sulfur in 2007, and further to ULSD in 2010. Railroad locomotive and marine diesel fuel also moved to 500 ppm sulfur in 2007, and will change to ULSD in 2012. There are exemptions for small refiners of non-road, locomotive and marine diesel fuel that allow for 500 ppm diesel to remain in the system until 2014. After December 1, 2014 all highway, non-road, locomotive and marine diesel fuel produced and imported will be ULSD."

As to hurting your motor or more importaintly the fuel system/injectors, no it shouldn't hurt. In older vehicles (ie: my '84 k30 with the 6.2l mech injected) the sulfer content helps with lubrication of the system. Or so I remember reading on the internet... so older ones like the higher sulfer and it shouldn't hurt the newer ones much if any. The labels on the mechine requireing ULSD is more for emissions regs not engine issues. I would run it and not give it a second thought.

Low sulfur diesel is strictly for emissions. As long as your engine does not have a catalytic converter or particulate trap high sulfur fuel will not hurt your engine. You may want to change the oil sooner than called for but that would be it.
