Guys - I have the 424 with loader=My property in NH is very steep and hilly in some areas- the 424 seems like it is pushing to go up the climbs with the bush hog even in low- My dads old 23 Hp Kubota handles it fine-I was thinking maybe I should sell it and get a 30-35 HP tractor??- Or am I doing something wrong??- thks

You're saying the 424 struggles to go up steep hills while you're operating your bush hog?

Do you have your RPM's set at PTO speed? What symptoms does it have? What does it do when struggling to climb hills?

Thanks for the response and the pto speed is set. Compared to our kabota it works like a dog trying to get up the hill and just seems all around to etruggle. Could it be because of the frontloader on? Thanks for the help

1) Are you certain the Yanmar's parking brake has been released?

2) Do you have four-wheel-drive engaged, or are you in two-wheel-drive mode?

3) Is your tractor struggling because the rear wheels are spinning, rather than holding traction? Are your rear tires filled with air or 3/4 filled with liquid?
~~~Or does the tractor feel like the engine is struggling for power?
4) Are your tires pressures correct? (On light tractors the tires can slip on the rims if tires pressures are too low. This is subtle.)
5) How heavy is the is the Bush Hog you have mounted? Does the Bush Hog tail wheel revolve freely? Is the Bush Hog rear wheel touching the ground most of the time when you are struggling up hill? Is the Bush Hog unitized to the tractor via connection of the two LOWER LINKS and one TOP LINK of the Three Point Hitch between the tractor and implement?
Your Yanmar is a sub-compact model. The it may not be able to draw a Bush Hog weighing more than a 48" width mower on steep hills.
6) What tires are on your Yanmar? What tires are on your Kubota?
7) What transmission does your Yanmar have? What transmission does your Kubota have?
You need to read responses carefully and reply to each question in detail or we cannot sort through your problem.
Your response above is of practically no help.
It is improbable the FEL has anything to do with the problems unless bucket is on the ground.
Running a 5' King Kutter on mine and the 424 turns it well. No hilly terrain to navigate but the 24 HP seems to run it just fine with little if any bogging. Just saying it can be done.
Issue does not seem to be spinning the Bush Hog.
The issue is the tractor/Bush Hog unit having difficulty ascending hills.
I run a 5' finish mower & a 6' tiller on my 200 hour SA424, its fine. Sounds like a parking brake is left on or an oversized bush hog or a seriously overgrown field.
Maybe a long shot, but does your HST pedal travel adjustment screw currently allow a full range of travel? Less than full range might be something only noticeable on hills.
