Is it still possible to buy a loader for a JD 790?

Last summer I saw a used model 70 loader to fit the 790 on our local Craigs List. I think it was located in Redwood Falls, MN.....but I cannot remember the price.

It just goes to show you......you can always find a good deal when you ain't looking for it. ;)

I am confused:confused: (very easily done BTW...) but that tractor already has a loader?

Hahaha! I thought the same thing at first. But I think this is a different one than the one he was pricing a loader for as he said something to the effect of 'this is the best deal as of yet'

You are correct. I found a 790 with 60 hrs for 9k asking. With a JD rotory mower. No loader. With a loader I would be looking a 12 k+ my budget is 11 grand and would like a free implement if I could get it.

I also just found a 2008 2320 for 11900 with 100 hrs. It's a little smaller but on my 2 acres it would probably work.

About 9 months ago, my local dealer quoted me a wholesale buy-back price of $11,200 for my 2320 w/ 200CX loader and loaded R4 tires and 50 hours. $11,900 seems pretty good, especially if you can knock it down a few hundred. I struggled with the decision between a 790/3005 and the 2320 - I was very pleased with my decision to go with the 2320 because of its hydro drive. I wasn't running any 3-pt PTO driven equipment, though, so that's one area the 790 does better with (it has an extra 5.5 hp @ the PTO).

That 790 is right in your range.

I would take a stab at that.

Good tractor.

Just a hint; if you are thinking about "settling" for a smaller tractor, don't! You should buy the biggest that you can afford because it will never be big enough, you will find yourself wanting more PTO HP & more loader & rear lift capacity! The 790 is a quite capeable tractor especially with the relief valve mod, it should be able to do everything you ask of it. Just my 2 cents worth.

To me the interesting thing about the 790 (and other tractors of this size) is that (1) you are very maneuverable around trees - making them great for food plotting (2) these are lightweight tractors that are easy to transport with a car trailer and light SUV or truck (3) they are not so big and powerful for the newby to use - so it's "manageable" power which may keep you out of trouble (4) five foot implements are less costly than six foot implements (and are "big enough" for many users.) (5) they are quite affordable.

Having said the above advantages of a small tractor.....the hydraulics are not the greatest with the 790. I shimmed my hydraulics slightly. You need to plan for light-weight rear implements...but I have never found the (model 70) loader to be lacking for my purposes (considering the size of the tractor).

FWIW I paid 10,000 for a tractor with loader.....300 hours.

One thing when we recommend a tractor...everybody looks at specs and thinks "790 can lift 715 lbs to max height, but the (insert tractor model here) can lift twice that!!!"
But, how much do most residential/small farmette owners need to lift? Biggest thing I've ever had to lif was a brush cutter off a pickup truck. That cutter weighed just about 650 lbs.
Same thing with PTO HP...how big a powered implement are you going to use? Heck, I had a 17.5 PTO HP tractor that ran a 5 foot cutter with no problems whatsoever (in fact, it was that little tractor that lifted that cutter...not the 790).
So, realistically speaking, most of us aren't going to use the capacities of most tractors available.
